My Real Name Revealed...and the Envelope Please

    Hello fellow hubbers,

    I have 2 questions:

    1. I have decided to reveal my "real" name here on Hubpages, but I haven't found the setting yet which allows me to put my name, like some hubbers have done, on their profile page, next to their pen name. For example, fellow hubber billybuc has his real name Bill Holland in small font to the right of his HubPages name. How is this done?

    2. Does anyone want to guess what my name is? First hint: in the movie, Intellstellar, my first name is one of the character's first name in the movie. If you haven't seen Interstellar (which I would highly recommend seeing), you can look at my Interstellar hub because I mention the first name. It's 6 characters.

Go to the Edit Profile page, and you will see a section that says "Real Name" below where you can choose your profile background.

I'll let others hazard a guess at your name, but I sure did love Interstellar! wink

        Hi Christy,

OMG, thank you for pointing that out. I can't believe I didn't see the "Real Name" field on the Edit Profile page.

I'll wait for a few days to post my real name in case I have some other hubbers who want to guess?

I noticed that my real name is on my profile now. I didn't authorize that, but it showed up when the hub layout was changed a few weeks ago. Go figure. It doesn't bother me, but it would have when I was a newbie and wasn't sure if I wanted my real name out there

Victoria, well that's weird. It seems that there are a few inconsistencues and bugs here and there. If my issues don't work themselves out I will post them on the help pages team discussion forum.

        Thanks.

    Good afternoon.

I apologize, but I cannot answer your first question. I am curious for the answer as well, so thanks for asking.

Secondly, I would love to take a stab at your name. Interstellar was an excellent movie! It has to by Murphy right? If I were given a second chance, I would say Cooper.. Both are excellent names, and can be used for either gender I would think.

I look forward to reading through some other hubs of yours. Have a good day!

    Steve

      Hi Steve,

      1. I will be curious to know the answer to my first question too.

      2. Thanks for trying to guess my first name, but nope, it's not Murphy.

Here's another hint: It was also the first name of a famous pilot.

  3. LuisEGonzalez profile image78

    Alexis Wolfe....................tongue

    Or Amelia Wolfe..........................hmm
It cannot be Murphy since on the movie it's only Murph

    1. stevemorgan1005 profile image67
stevemorgan1005posted 9 years agoin reply to this

Well it's mentioned that the name is Murphy. Coop and the family just call her Murph.

easylearningwebposted 9 years agoin reply to this

Steven, I think when she was little in the movie, they may have called her Murphy, but then most of the movie they called her Murph.

        Thanks.

Hey, if anyone wants to really be a detective, you can try to find my last name. Hint: There's a link on my profile page which will reveal my full name.

    2. easylearningweb profile image84
easylearningwebposted 9 years agoin reply to this

Luis, you are correct...my first name is Amelia. Amelia is the first name of Anne Hathaway's character in Interstellar.

My other hint about a famous pilot was referring to "Amelia Earhart".

      Good guess! Thanks. :-)

      Luis,

You win, that's correct! Actually, it is right on my LinkedIn page if you click on the LinkedIn logo on the upper right of my profile page. You are very resourceful.

I wish this was a real contest where you win the jackpot! I will reward you with many likes and I've overdue to read some hubs, so for everyone that participated in this little game, I will have to check out lots of your hubs!

      This was fun. ;-)

I miss some of the camaraderie that I used to see like this on HubPages in the past. I really hope all our traffic picks up so we can all have a prosperous year and beyond!

Marcy, glad to see you and others having fun too. Isn't this what hubbin' is all about...having fun?!

I hope we can come up with some other ways to have fun and work together. Maybe collaboration is the key. Let's see if we can put our heads together and come up with something.

I'm a little burned out because yesterday I just finished my 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge. It was a good experience for me, but I have to admit the last 10 or so hubs were a little tricky to get done but what a great feeling to be done and cross the finish line.

Let's hope for some fun writing challenges this year! I'm looking into outside writing contests but always hoping that HubPages will sponsor one. We'll see. :-)

Glad to hear that, Luis. I hope others had fun too. :-)

I would love it if the HubPages team would consider having a monetary contest or two again. Maybe something along the line of treasure hunt. Maybe we can have a special phrase or image hidden somewhere on one of our hubs. This way, it could be traffic on existing hubs. Just an idea.

I'm crossing my fingers that this is the year that contests come back. I really think it inspires us to be more creative with our hubs.

This is an easy one ; what three letters once you "know who I am" can spell two words by simply putting them in the order they first appear and then reversing their order plus by mixing their order the name of a major appliance company is the US ?

Name the words and the name of the company.

Winner will get a hub linked/shared on 2 Facebook pages, Twitter, Scoop-it, Tsu, Google Plus and LinkedIn plus a big smile emoticon..............sorry no money....I'm too broke for that!

Luis - I remember you know...you are the photography expert. Did I ask you already way in the past...what is a good camera to photograph food? There is a setting on my Sony Cybershot for food, but I know a little camera like that isn't gonna do it. I hear that the cell phone cameras are getting better than real cameras (at least better than a Sony Cybershot).

You can get a used Canon from Amazon for about $228.. The good thing about these digital cameras is that you can use any old Canon film lens and by having a variety of lenses (for food an 80mm or greater zoom/macro capable one  works best) your creative latitude is that much greater.
The best so far is one that is about the same as Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro. This lens size allows you to be as close as 1 foot from the dish.

I just noticed 2 freaky things.

    1. Yesterday I entered my full name in the "Real Name" field in the Edit Profile page, and then saw my name which I put in parenthesis, next to my HubPages name. Today it was gone! I just went back in Edit Profile and entered my full name again, and I see it on my profile page again...we'll see what happens.

    2. I have 93 hubs, but the number of hubs on my profile page say "92". Weird. If I go into the My Account page, it says "93" for the total number of my hubs. By coincidence, my HubPages Profile score is 93 today, no to be confused with the number of my hubs, which is supposed to be 93. :-O

    Freaky Wednesday?

Writer Fox is right - I was born there, but now I am FROM Texas (and proud of it!).  Didn't grow up in New Jersey, though.

Okay - since Luis is the one who originally posted the right answer (even if New York was in the mix), and Writer Fox got the logic of it (Jerseys are warm, and the "New" relates to being a new baby), I owe both of you two shares.

Marcy's riddle is to guess that state she was born in (guesses: New York, New Jersey, Florida, Texas)?

I was born in New Jersey (Jersey is warm, "new" for being a newborn).  So New Jersey is the right answer.  As Writer Fox mentioned, I didn't bother making a riddle on where I am 'from,' - I live in Texas, so I am from there as of many moons ago.  And I tell people I'm from there, all the time.  Wouldn't have been a difficult riddle to solve!

        Luis and Detectives on-hand,

No, I don't give up easy, but your puzzle is puzzling? LOL

Your last clue said not as spiritual as you may think but more in the realm of a fortune teller, so that's why I keep thinking about astrology. Am I close in regards to the topic?

For the newspaper, I'm not sure about the LI.  ttle PAPER clue? How about one more clue for us today? And maybe recap if any answers from anyone were getting close.

        1. LuisEGonzalez profile image78
LuisEGonzalezposted 9 years agoin reply to this

For the first one it is astrology so then what is my sign?
Hint: I am shown holding two which allows me to weigh my options.
For the second: besides being a Paper and being Li.   ttle it comes from small rivers.
Hint: what do all proper names have in common and it comes from a single source which can also be a proper one.

Not a hint: My students found the answers in about two hours last year but they did put all their heads together. My goal was to teach them to use deductive, analytic and cognitive thinking skills.

Luis, Your sign might be Pisces because it is an intuitive sign and Pisces people are natural mediums who can communicate their inner vision through either the arts or the sciences?

For the second, not sure about the newspaper. My only immediate thought about the clue about rivers, makes me think of pebbles. How about newspebbles.com which is an online newspaper?

Otherwise, I will have to think about that one and get back to you later today.

            Other takers?

Yes I am a Libra. Very good.  Now for the newspaper. Hint: I have already told you the name. Concentrate on this; "For the second: besides being a Paper and being Li.   ttle it comes from small rivers." It tells you the name of the paper plus who publishes it.
Hint: what do all proper names have in common and it comes from a single source which can also be a proper one."
Hint: It is seen in many social circles

Luis, I think you have stumped us all in regards to your newspaper puzzle. The only thing  I can think of is "fish" from a river. Otherwise, I think we need another clue. I don't want to admit that we are all clueless? LOL.

                  OK...
1.The newspaper features three elements from my name
2.the small rivers is not a river at all & changing two letters into upper case should reveal a proper noun
3.Keep in mind the upper case letters (why they are so) in previous hints.
This is the answer; "besides being a Paper and being Li... it comes from small rivers. It tells you the name of the paper plus who publishes it."

Luis, I found it! I asked my phone where small rivers was, thinking it was a place, but I see it is a company, and the website is:
                    http://paper.li

I had never heard of this. So this company is good for publishing? How do you publish your books? I have several projects in progress so I'm interested in learning how others have been successful in getting their works published.

                    Thanks, I took a screenshot:

Blimey, this thread took a turn I didn't expect.
I have checked my real name - it was (thankfully) a blank spot.

I am a quiet, reserved (hermit) by nature and don't wish my name to be here/there/everywhere as "writing for income" for me is a different face to "writing for clients".  While I could decide that solving smelly feet would make me a lot of money on this site (or others), I'd not wish a client to stumble across that when considering me to write their content on baking fancy cakes smile

A really hard one. Guess the name of this movie!
Get the right answer and I will share three of your hubs all over the place!!!

    1. BMX riding might not be the movie’s main focus, but this flick shows that girls can totally be kick ass BMX-ers too!

    2. Though we know this actor as a goofy vampire, this was actually his first movie.
    3. The characters in this movie definitely showed that it’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.

    4. Her acting was great in the movie, but the lead actress doesn't exactly fit the body type of the type of character she portrays.
    5. Rapper Missy Elliot remixed a special version of this song JUST for the movie!

    6. This movie is packed with cameos from pro athletes.

    7. Though he didn't earn any awards for this movie, one of this film’s stars has six, yes six Oscar nominations and one win. Impressive.
    8. This movie has a lot of similarities to a (cancelled) ABC Family show – the show even uses some of the same plot lines.
    9. This movie’s main antagonist didn't get to showcase his or her singing ability in their role, but definitely does now as a cast member on Glee!

    10. Bra straps have never played a more important role in a movie before.
    11. The name's a sticker
    12. Reminds you of an Olympic sports
    13. Athletes find out that they have more power than the judges

Nope. Here is another clue; he wore a cape in two of his films and liked to carry long sticks with one being "brighter" than the other. In another of his movies he lived in a tower plus didn't seem to like trees that much. Perhaps he wasn't as Wise as he was known. He also shares a real name with an actor known for playing a super hero.
