I've received some more information from our engineering team regarding the recent issues with stats processing.

The stats processing mechanism is a bit complicated (due to the sheer amount of data to process), with many interconnected parts.
Unfortunately, this means that a single failure can cause the stats processing to stall. There have been hiccups in the past few weekends which have affected the stats processing and required engineering attention, which is why they were not fixed until the following Mondays.

Engineering is currently working to determine the point of failure and make this process more reliable.
If everything is running as scheduled, the system should update the stats 4-5 times throughout the day.

Please feel free to report issues with stats so that we can make sure to account for any new problems.
We currently do not have a specific ETA for when stats will fully stabilize, but will post updates as they are available.

Rest assured that we are aware of the frustration this may be causing, and we appreciate your patience.

Thanks for the update, Matt!  Having watched 2 other writing sites go down I've learned that worry isn't necessary when stats stop updating correctly, it's necessary when stats stop updating correctly and the staff won't give straight answers or talk about the problem!  Messages like this one will keep me from jumping ship!

Thank you Matt for letting us know what is going on and that you are working on it.  When I first joined stats updated 4-5 a day and I hope to see that again. Sometimes I will promote my hubs in the morning and it is nice to be able to see the effect the same day.

Thank you, Matt, for your response to this troublesome issue. I/we truly appreciate getting a straight answer from someone who actually knows what is going on. Maybe I won't be in such a hurry to leave, after all.

Good news, glad to know it's being worked on and it's good to get a bit of a better understanding of what's causing the problem.

I guess you should sticky this post until the problem is fixed. Else new threads are just going to keep popping up.

When the stats go down, put up a "known problems" notice.

That might be a good idea.
Then, there won't be so many threads on the same topic?

Updates like this helps soothe my nerves. I'm going to stay positive because I have faith that everything will work out and all our updating fears will be over.

When comparing yesterday's statistics - after they recovered from the suite of zeros - with Google Analytics, I noticed something very interesting.

The statistics for all but my top ranked hubs were virtually identifical to those showing on Google Analytics  "Page Views" in that the vast majority were exactly the same or maybe 1 different. However the top ranked hub showed a gap which can be expressed as either 16% of the HubPages total or 14% of the Google Analytics total

Now a consistent gap between Google Analytics and HubPages I might be able to understand since different stats systems count in different ways.

However a differential difference makes no sort of sense to me at all.

I suggest others check to see if they also detect this sort of differential gap on hubs with higher levels of traffic.

I also don't understand why, if the HubPages stats system is having problems, the HP Team don't use the GA Page Views stats which seem to continue even when HubPages Stats can't produce an accurate total. At least then the stats would be based on something that can be independently validated.

I'm unclear what the HP stats count that the GA stats don't.

Thank you, Matthews. It makes us glad to see you respond like this. This is the kind of gesture that we shall expect from you always. It is not the problem that worries us more. But what concerns much more is silence from administration. I am much relieved seeing you take pains to voluntarily post this update today. Thanks a lot on behalf of me and also on behalf of all of us.

Thanks for the response Matthew, it's always good to be given some kind of explanation.

I am getting this from Google Analytics Notifications:

    Enable Advertising Features
Property HubPages is configured to use Advertising Features, but it isn't collecting data for these features.
Check again | Ignore | Details

Not really sure what that means, if I have to do something or if this is part of the HP problems. But I'm concerned.

    Can anyone enlighten me?
    Thanks.
    ~Sage
