I just joined the site recently. I was reading how you can use adsense and other things on here. I also saw how you can have profiles and everything.
My main reason for making this account is to comment on people's Hubs and leave them Fanmail for my favorite authors. A friend told me about Hubpages and that it has an excellent amount of Articles about everything and most of them are written accurately, so I been reading them for a few days. I do have some questions i'm really confused about though;
1. Can an adsense account (and other things like eBay) be hooked to more then 1 Hubpage account without causing trouble? (I know if I ever do write anything, that all the money earned will be sent to the linked account)
2. Can I have an account to just comment on people and use the forums? I really am not much of a writer, but I am a good reader!
3. What is the number next to my name? Why is it like a 0?
Thanks everyone who takes time to answer my questions!
Mimbi
Mimbi, welcome to Hubpages.
Many people join and never write a hub, only read the hubs of others and post in the forums. However, it'd be nice if you added a photo or avatar to your profile to get an idea of who you are (also so you won't be mistaken for a spammer).
An Adsense account will hook to however many accounts you have with the same contact info you provided when you applied for the (Adsense) account.
The -0- next to your name means you haven't been here long enough for HP's scoring software to recognize you yet. If you don't write any hubs, that number will change and fluctuate depending on the number of comments you make in forums and on people's hubs, how many people become your fan (if any do since you have mo hubs). There are several hubs and forum threads about personal hubscores.
Hi Mimbi, welcome to HP. If you like, you can always write about your favorite Hubs and authors too. Even if it's just say, two Hubs a month.
Thanks for your answers! I added a profile image to my account like you sugested. I will also be working on a profile.
My adsense question wasnt answered though. I don't want to share much of my personal life really, so this is the case:
I don't feel secure sending my information to google adsense. I like this site and I might start writing for it but I don't want it to be for completly free( a chance of making money). My brother is 3 years older then me and he has lifelock for his SSN so even if it is stolen online he is protected. I never really trusted the internet for personally information. Lately, I been starting online banking and Paypal and it even stresses me out a little. Bottom line question is this:
Can I use another persons(brothers) adsense/ad things on my Hub?(and I understand all money made will be directed to his account)
Mimbi
Thats not allowed. It would violate the TOS I do believe
hey, welcome to HP! Hope you enjoy reading and/or writing hubs
In answer to your Q--This is how I understand it and I'll try to explain it as best I can. I could be totally wrong here, but I think this is how it works.
The ads Google puts on the hubs you write, are of their own choosing. They put what they think is relevant to your article. You will only have ads on hubs you write, not your profile, so if you don't plan on writing any, you don't need to worry about the AdSense anyway. The adsense acct is so that you can make money off of Google advertising on your hub. It's usually very little money at least at first, I know some people have made a lot with it, but most make VERY little. You can also uncheck the 'commercial' box in the title, etc. section when you do write a hub and I think they won't put ads on at all? (not sure about that part) Anyway, you are not required to have an adsense acct. you can write read, whatever and never have an acct. a lot of ppl don't. That's up to you. So, basically, you can use your brother's adsense info, if he already has one an link it to your hub. I think you have to do that through Adsense, not hubPages. So as long as your bro gives you permission, any money generated by ads on your hubs, will go to his acct. You have no control over the specific ads Google places on your hubs.
Hope that answers your question
Thank you for your incite! I also took Scribe's note and read the Hubpages Terms of Service. Nowhere on the Hubpages TOS states that only 1 Hub account can have a unique id, making me think a user could have there adsense account on unlimited amount of sites and any Hubpages accounts they want. Google Adsense can't say I cannot use someone elses adsense account on my Hubpage account due to the fact Adsense can be on a website with many writers, like Hubpages to state one. But a personal person could own 20 webpages were users they hire or all partly own can make they own content on them with the adsense code. Can anyone confirm the following:
1. I can use any other persons Adsense account on my Hubpages account. (With permission from the Hubber.)
2. An Adsense account can be used on sites owned by more then one person and show on other peoples (users of site) content.
I don't see how using my brothers adsense account can hurt in anyway if the following is met:
-He gives me permission.
Does anyone know of any reasons why me or my brother would get in trouble with that being said?
Mimbi
Welcome.
A simpler answer is if you don't want to make money here, you don't have to use adsense at all. But having someone who just wants to read on comment on hubs I think is a really good thing so welcome.
I'm with bgpappa, if all you want to do is comment, that should be fine...If you want to make a little money, then you need to write! Whatever you decide, it's all good!
Mimbi, it's fine to use whatever Adsense ID you like.
As the others have said, if all you have is a profile, you won't make much money from Adsense anyway.
Welcome to HubPages!
Jenny
Thank You for your answer Inspirepub! By the length of time you were here and the amount of Fans/Hubs/Posts you have I will take it you answer is correct.
Thanks everyone else too! By the way your saying it, it seems like you wish me to at least attempt at writing something. Well, because so many of you are welcoming and it does look like this is a great community, I will see if I can write something up.

Just for a bit of background - I have been writing online for years, and literally have millions of words "out there". Only once did I have an AdSense account, and if I remember correctly, it was for a blog that is rarely used. It still appears, if I right-click on the blog, and view the...

Just gaging anyone else's earnings here. I just checked google adsense and I have earned 64 dollars in 18 months. I've only written 19 Hubs and most of them don't get any traffic. Any thoughts?

Being new I'm not sure I totally understand the way to generate income here in HP. Am I to understand that one must have an Adsense account to earn income? I've applied for an Adsense account some time ago but have not heard anything from them. Does this mean no matter how good my hubs are and how...

Have any of you found detestable ads on your hubs? It is a "game" with girls in bras...how distasteful I want it off my hub...do you know if we have a say in this? It has nothing to do with my poem and is disgusting to me.
