How lucritive is HubPages? Are you or anyone you know making over $500/mo? (Be honest).
In my experience, HubPages is not lucrative at all. I've been here for nearly two months and I have made a combined total of $2.50. My hubs are very well written, but I lack two things: marketability and self-promotion. I'd bet the hubbers who produce hubs primarily about Indian women in bikinis are doing quite well on the financial side, as well as authors who know how to promote themselves and build up a fan base. I, however, write about philosophy and rarely go out 'hustling'. I just enjoy writing and satisfying my small, but intelligent, fan base.
Good luck!
Me, Not yet. Yes, I know of people making more. The only people that have a chance are those with:
1) LOTS of Hubs (100 absolute minimum, many more better).
2) Hubs are commercial (product or money making related).
3) Hubs have many links from outside HubPages.
See my profile and look for the Courtney link for more details.
Based on what some have said in the forums, some people are making that. Based on what I've earned, I can see that it would be possible for the person who writes the right kind of Hubs, includes the right kind of additional information (links, pictures, videos, etc.), knows how to optimize with keywords, and generally puts in an informed effort.
There is plenty of information on this site (in the forums and in Hubs) about how to increase the chances of any Hub's earning. Some Hubs earn more than others. The best ones have titles people search for, are unique, offer useful information, and are well written.
People are generally advised, "Don't quit your day job. HubPages is a nice extra income." Although some people manage to earn well when they first sign up as members, most find that it takes a few months to see the earnings start to improve. It can take longer for some than others, but many have found that it takes the first few months to start to earn much of anything, and after that earnings often pick up speed.
Many people share my experience that it took about eight months before earnings started to pick up. (I don't happen to be someone who does much in terms in keywords and other optimization. If I did, and based on what I've been earning, I believe I'd be earning at least the $500 a month. Again, it requires doing that it takes to produce the right kind of Hub, putting in the effort to use keywords correctly, creating a title that people are likely to search for (there are tools that help with that), writing good content, and patience (at least in most cases).
I know a few people making over $500/month. I'm making about $100 a month (with 86 Hubs).

I have just started, so I dont expect it in the near future, but how many hubs, or how many months before you start making money? How much traffic is considered to be good traffic? Right now I am getting about an average of 75 hits per day on 4 hubs. Is that good? What...

Basically, I mean that us hubbers put countless hours of work into writing one quality hub after another which in turn increases hubpages revenue, which allows them to enjoy the fruits of its writers dedication and labor. I know writing on hubpages is presented to us like hubpages is doing all us...
