I'm here to report a problem, and a serious one. There is a scientology video ad on my hubs and the hubs of many. This is an outrage!
It's starting to become obvious that this site is doing this purposefuly. I'm not writing for scientology affiliates!
Hubpages is a joke.
Scientology has been launching quite an extensive campaign on AdWords for a while, they've also switched to showing ads based not exclusively on content, but also on viewer profiles. (Yes, the Google is watching you.) Therefore, you may be seeing Scientology videos as a consequence of your own viewing habits, although its more likely a consequence of the fact that Scientology has simply thrown a lot of money at AdWords lately.
LOL Hope, we got an ignorant conspiracy theorist here, logic and reason have no place
Misha, logic belongs to the past. It is a tool by which you can make sense of the world you experience and which helps you to decide what is what. And this is a state that you need to feel secure, isn't it.
However, if you depend on logic too much you are confined to analyzing the past and it prevents you from thinking ahead. And without thinking ahead you cannot progress. There is no such thing as impossible if you take the time to think about it. These ads should disappear. Think about what's happening to those who fall for them.
If someone feels insecure here, it is you
I made my peace with this world, including water4gas and scientology ads

Is there a doctor in the house?
Hope, this is such a keen eye that I don't argue with you. But hey, if it's my ip than how come I never ever come across any such ad on any other site?
Last time I looked, there was no law saying that you have to use HubPages if you don't agree with what they do, or the ads they show.
You accuse Misha of "Being weak and not being able to do better".
OK, why not give us an example of what a strong person would do.
Take your Drupal knowledge and set up your own version of Hubpages, where you can have full control over the ads that appear.
That's much more productive than sitting here whining about things over which you have no control.
(P.S. I've never seen a Scientology advert on here. All I get is the fat bloke and the weight loss ads ))
It looks like a game played by Freemasons. They are propagating their scientology rubbish to laymen via Hubpages.
And yes, please tell me this: how come no matter what the hub is about the scientology ad appears anyway?
I'm sure it all has something to do with an oil pipeline in Afghanistan!
This is a Drupal site and I know how a Drupal site works. They have control over everything that you see... Sorry. I mean the things that you would see if you opened your eyes.
I do not have any Scientology ad on my profile anymore, I blocked both their ads in my adsense account. I still see them elsewhere.
Half the time the ads are there for you and half the time they are there for hp. When it's hps turn they WILL appear on your hubs. Also, if you noticed there is a block in the right sidebar right next to your hubs body, which displays ads. Over that block you have no control.
But hey, it's not true. Just stop categorizing people on first impression and criticizing thinks you've never even thought about. Things are gonna be fine.
Maybe we should all start clicking the crap out of them so that Google jacks their click rate from 2 cents to $10!
I think Maddie was explaining on another thread that it depends what category you post your hub under ( as to which adverts go where) ...no wait, erase that , was to do with related hubs ,on the side that dont seem to relate.
Sorry that didnt really help at all.
Perhaps you could try clicking off all adverts for a few hours and see if they disappear ?
Good Luck ,would annoy me too to be supporting something I didnt want too.
glad youre having fun ..didnt approve the fanmail ,cuz you just richocheted mine back to me, you need a good spanking!
oHHHH I just scrolled back...
what the ?
Eric are you being a cheerleader for Misha ,thats kinda cute , he would be proud of you.
Geez I'm stupid.
I should have known that this was just a sock puppet show.
Whatever.
You've certainly impressed us all with your superiority, and your little tanty.
What do you mean it wasnt you ?
One account ,many aliasis, one person right?
Nevermind the fanmail came via your account ,clever I spose in the tech world.
Dunno
Some real and some virtual drunks I guess
Only good thing ,no mess to clean up the next day
Yea I hear that.
Forums here I think can be very clicky though.
But I think I got it figured.
Still its a big ocean out there ,time to cast my net.
You agreed with me so it seems fit for me to at least respond. Not to mention I'm still hoping that some hp sweetie should take the time to react. I've reported a problem you see.
The aliens made me do it.
JOKE! JOKE! Geez.
No, HubPages does not have a secret deal with the Scientologists. We simply do not use our competative ad filter for things like this. We're not going to get into the business of making business decisions based on personal feelings or beliefs.
I know it's not a secret deal.
Feelings have a place in the thinking process so I don't think you can block them from business decisions. Also, if you don't pay attention to them in business meetings you make a mistake. And there is even such a thing as business ethics.
Probably the bottom line is those who don't like it are free to leave.
Thanks for the reply.
Maddie, I think what Haunty is trying to say in a less rude manner, is that while everyone is entitled to their beliefs and there is nothing wrong with the occasional Scientology advert on the appropriate hub (a scientology one perhaps), its basically being spammed across everyone's hubs regardless of what the hub about.
I don't understand how Google works or why it is doing this, but there must be something that you can do about it?
Thanks for being civil, Jen
Google is in charge of targeting ads. Low-traffic hubs may have unrelated ads on them, placed by default by Google, but hubs getting any number of regular visitors should have targeted ads.
Now, if Scientology.org is buying up a bunch of keywords that aren't strictly related to religion or spirituality (which is where you'd expect such ads to appear), there's nothing we can do about it.

Deafening silence from HubPages staff concerning the new Google changes. I mean damn, are you guys professionals or not? Just a word or two to your loyal writers is not asking too much is it? (notice I used profanity as this usually gets one of the mod's attention)

Now don't get me wrong, I totally love writing on Hubpages and being a part of the Hubbing community, but I have lost a little heart recently when one hub of mine on "How to Improve Male Fertility" had the ads disabled based on automatic filters. This problem I reported in order to have...

For several months now (almost since I joined hubpages) I have been getting harassing, threatening and ridiculous comments from the same person. I originally encountered her in a forum, and she has not left me alone since. She repeatedly leaves me harassing fan mail, none of which has...

I thought this was interesting. In case anyone (including HP, apparently) is still unsure, check out No. 1 on this list:Helpful Content Recovery, per StudiesIn other words, you probably haven't lost traffic because your bio isn't thorough enough.
