Calling in any chips I have...

Look guys, I don't know how many chips I have available here, but I'm calling them in. I don't care what god you pray to or what religion you are or aren't. Just please, please, pray for my new grandbaby. I honestly don't care if you pray to the trees in your backyard.

My daughter had fraternal twins on Tuesday, and one of them has been diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic disease that is life threatening -- KATP type congenital hyperinsulinism. They are waiting for her to stabilize before they airlift her to Philadelphia, one of only 4 hospitals in the country that are considered experts in this particular disease.

Again, I don't care who you pray to. I just need all of your prayers. Big, big, big-time. I'm not looking for your sympathy, although much appreciated. I just want your prayers.

Oh my Lord, I am so sorry.  You and yours are of course in the prayers of me and mine.  The good news, if you can call it that, is that they have to keep the baby's blood sugar from bottoming out.  That's a bit easier than, say, bringing it down.  Surgery is apparently one way to treat it, do you know if that option is on the table?  Please keep us informed.

Just so you know I'm a type II diabetic and my fiance has double diabetes, if you need any advice or need to know anything about controlling blood sugar feel free to ask.

Thanks for your thoughts, Ledefensetch, but I know all too well. My other daughter is a Type I diabetic. So I have a grandbaby producing too much insulin, and a daughter that can't produce any. Go figure.

You're most welcome, it can be pure hell dealing with blood sugar problems, especially if you have to learn from scratch.  The condition doesn't seem to be as serious as someone with type I diabetes so there is hope that some drug therapy or surgery can correct the problem.  We can be thankful they caught it and know what the problem is.  That's half the battle right there.  I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we will keep you in our prayers.

Thanks, ledefensetech. I wish that were the case. Unfortunately, this is way more serious than someone with Type I diabetes, which my other daughter has and I have been dealing with for over 10 years. This is like god's bad joke.

In this case. both parents happened to have the same gene that mutated, causing a genetically mutated pancreas in my grandbaby that produces waaaaay more insulin than her body needs. There is no cure. The only therapy is surgery and lifelong problems. And did I mention that I'm a mess.

Everyone here prayed for my father when he had his heart attack.  I truly believed it helped because when I showed him the wishes from Hubbers he smiled so there is power here at HubPages.

I will definatly pray for everyone involved.  Of course please keep us informed.

Honestly, you've all got me in tears right now. Thank you so, so much. It's one thing for a baby to have a disease. It's another for them to have a rare disase. It's another for them to have an extremely  rare disase with few experts to treat it. I'm so crying right now it's pathetic. Thank you again.

You wouldn't be human if you didn't tear up now and we wouldn't be human if we didn't give you our best wishes and prayers.  That, in the end, is what it means to be human.

I hope for the best as I have been exhausted of prayers for years. What will be will be, but I sincerely hope - in this one case - that in the end it will all be good.

In some rare cases, hope is as good as prayer, so it is my wish that the hope that I have for you equates out to the extra prayer needed for all to be well ...

Yes Asher. Same babies. They were fraternal twins, though, and only one baby wound up with the disease. And ironically, it's the disease that somehow caused her to be so large at birth. Go figure.

Irohner, may all the prayers that are being said for your little granddaughter be answered.  Maybe some prayers for strength for her parents and you, and prayers that some new treatment become available, wouldn't hurt either.
