As with any contributions you do on hubpages, it increases the chances of other people reading your hubs, following you, etc. You get to post a link to your hub in the hubmob thread on the forums, and I don't think you are normally allowed to post links to your hubs in the forums.
I participated in this week's hubmob topic 'The Uncommon History of Common Things'. I read and commented on several of the hubs in this week's hubmob. I then posted mine (a history of the umbrella) and had quite a few more people reading than I would normally get for a new post. I got some good comments (including on other hubs people had gone to after reading my hubmob one) and picked up some new followers, and a bit of fan mail! I also found a couple of people to follow.
So it is definitely worth doing, I'll definitely be participating in the next one too.
While joining the hubmob, you're expected to add the RSS feed of the particular hubmob question in your hub. This simply helps few other hubs get links from yours. Similarly, your hub (as part of the feed when the hub becomes HOT) is also listed in the feed and there's more chance for other participants of the hubmob visit yours.
Now, it's a benefit.. Isn't it..?

Thank you to everyone who contributed to last week's Welsh HubMob, the response was amazing, 47 hubs published in a week. Most of us who were not familiar with Wales and its enormous influence to the USA and worldwide culture in general, have learnt a few things last week. Hopefully...

This week's HubMob has taken more of a consumer, money-spending, self-indulgent shift, which is totally OK with me. You see, this week's HubMob Topic of Products, Products And More Products! Hub about a product that you love or that other people love is designed to appeal to that inner mall-loving,...

I have reached the point where I don’t care about SEO, hot topics, etc. I’m just looking for my next article to write. I humbly suggest the following:Enter a topic that you do not intend to write about. Maybe it will trigger a thought-process that helps someone else. Humor/frivolous/facetious...

I'm not sure if any of you have heard of a FlashMob, but I think that they are awesome. Basically it's when a group of people go out and do something ridiculous together just for the fun of it and the reaction from other people who see it. Now, I know that all of us Hubbers are scattered all across...
