What are the pitfalls of public approval?

Do you have a need for people to like your work?  Do you feel this is necessary to the writing process, other people commenting and agreeing or disagreeing with you?

Excellant question northweststarr and tempted to write  Hub about it.  You could have opened a can of psychological worms with this one....It is nice to have approval but obviously not everyone wll like your work so you have to roll with the punces.  :0)

Another question should be: "who do you write for yourself or the people?"

Hey Naomi! Definitely write a hub about it!  Rolling with the punches IS difficult.  Is it worth it in the end?

Good question, northweststarr, and no doubt provocative at cutting useful discussion for a range of intelligent people curious enough to cut into the writing process. My own answer HubPages cut back as too long to make the cut (surprise, surprise!) for this venue, but I thought it not wise to cut it down to size here, so I cut it with a save and cut it forth as a separate hub, giving you credit, of course, for first cutting the question. Am I boring you yet?

The most important thing is to write an intelligent, thoughtful, and well researched hub it it is nonfictional and highly imaginative if it is fictional.   It is of paramount importance that a hub be interesting as to draw your audience to you.   Use catchy and intriguing tabs to get traffic to you.   Don't worry about approval, just present an intelligent, thoughtful hub.
