What benefit does having your answer selected as the best have?
At the moment it just highlights your answer to the top of the list so that you may get additional traffic from people who want to read your hubs.
There also some awards for times you are selected as a best answer.
The situation is always changing so in the future there may be additional benefits.
There are two main benefits :
1. That of knowing that you've tried hard to give a truthful, clear and sufficient answer, which can be satisfying, depending on the question.
2. That of kudos here on HubPages. Some people might think that you're a better writer if you get best answer a number of times!! Or at least they may think you put effort into replying and are therefore someone who appreciates what other hubbers ask and are curious about.
Having said all that I have to admit that some best answers are extremely subjective ones - given best answer for no other reason than the questioner 'likes' that reply, or it suits their narrow criteria.
I have been neglected numerous times, even though I thought many of my answers were far and away more truthful, accurate, and detailed than most. I think the majority of "askers" select the answers that they want to hear. I don't try as hard anymore.
Just ask Dashingscorpio what the significance is. He has been awarded best answer at least 50 times already. For his accomplishment, he has been given a cute little crown with a 50 in the center of it.
OMG! I didn't know we got something for being picked! Don't know if I've ever been picked. How do you know?
If one is picked "best answer" - your answer will be highlighted in yellow and placed at the top of the page. For instance, when Thompsonpen, picks my answer as "best answer", you will see it displayed at the top of this page in all its glory. :0)

I'm curious if anyone knows if the new editors that were hired have completed the training and are on their own now, or if article standards have changed for some reason? The last few months I've had some very old and not updated articles moved to niche sites. I'm happy more of my articles are...
