Why don't people put their pictures up instead of other things?

   Harv - I can see from your hubs that you like to write about what you know - yourself - you write alot of autobiographical things which is just great.  Some other hubbers though aren't into that kind of writing and therefore the "nom de plume" the "disguise" etc.  Also you probably aren't much into fantasy and imagination and fiction - from what I can tell.  Some of us are.  Maybe finally your question is answered!  This is why we put up pictures other than of ourselves - we are exploring more of the world than just ourselves!

    pizza is always a good idea - it worked with some of my clients when they were trying to argue but were hearing voices from other realms or something - look, the thing with the hearing voices is that they suck you in with their answers being so interesting and all, and you kinda want to hear what they are answering to and then - well, you know what happens next!  pizza arrives and no one is there to eat it!

    I've always put pictures of myself up..I am that female sitting infront of the water..lol I have posted a picture of a lion before and of my cat before because I love animals. And also one of me as a baby with my papa/grandpa holding me to show my respect when he passed away.
    
    But why don't ppl put up their own picutres? privacy maybe...or they have other interests and want to show those off here on hubpages through their avatart pictures.

    As they say, sometimes a picture speaks a thousand words:)  I see some of the pictures people use and I feel it reflects more about their personality, than maybe their actual picture does. 
    
    Yet I do see too, for those more experienced writers, who have made their name known, through writing...an actual picture of them is good:) Like the columnist!

    I use this avatar for a number of reasons.
    #1 It makes me smile or giggle sometimes and I hope that it does the same for my readers.
    #2 It protects my identity. I'm pretty young and I don't want perverts deciding to come pay me a visit.
    #3 Since people don't know who I am, it gives me the cahones to write what I really feel and not hold anything back.
