   Can anyone here make rhyme or reason out of the HP scoring system?
   
   For example, I have a high-traffic hub with a low score, and then other thoroughly researched articles, with graphs and everything else, but which do not necessarily have high traffic, but which may share a similar score (as the high traffic hub). I see that some hubbers have high scores, even though their hubs contain little factual information. Does anyone else find this strange?  Seriously, I do not understand the scoring system at all. Does anyone understand it?

   Yves, sorry not a clue, but we can rule out writing quality.  It is possible that part of it comes with the up or down choice. It is just a number, and there is no way without knowing how it works to change it.
   
   imo, it is more of a reflection on hp than the writer. Especially, when you see the hi 90 scores, and wonder how did that person score that high.

      Right?? I've read some articles that are all over the place and which do not even contain one shred of truth---no polls, graphs, nothing, and I'm thinking to myself, "How did they get that score?" I guess it's just one of those mysteries of life. Lol

   Yves.....Tell you what, Girlfriend.  Even Team HP can't figure out the scoring system.  Well......better said, they can't EXPLAIN it in any way that would make sense or not leave many unanswered concerns.
   I've asked several times during my tenure here thus far.  Each time I received a different note with contents more like virtual lip service.  Nothing definite, nothing comprehensible.
   The main reasons are to do with the "bots."  Those little non-humans just do what they will and that's that.
   Maybe one day, when some super genius uncovers the ages-long mystery of the Universe, there'll be a little Post Script included about the crazy  Hub scores and Hubber Profile score!!
   Sorry no one can be much more helpful. It's not easy to deal with and believe me, I do try.
   Have been trying to follow advice from Veterans here longer than I.  They all seem to suggest we train ourselves to "ignore it" and just write and go on about the business of the day.
   Personally, I like motivation, fairness and communication.  As much as I LOVE this place, it is not at all forthcoming in these areas!  Hugs, Paula

      Paula, It may be the down arrows (like Brad said) & people writing in to complain about me when I call them out for lying. Maybe HP doesn't check and they just down arrow the hubber score. But then there is still the hub score. Weird. I shouldn't

   Nope, and that has been the case for the 6 or 7 years I've written here.  The editorial hub I wrote (noted further down this page) has been at 100 for a couple days; maybe because it's had a lot of hits since I published it (early Monday evening) and a few comments.  But it won't stay that way and others I've done usually come in anywhere from the upper 70s to the upper 90s, depending on the page views.  But what this has to do with my personal Hubber score or the amount of page views/money ... still no clue.  Sometimes it's just better not to ask :-)

      Ha! It's just annoying when I fix a hub and it goes up 8 points, only to come down again in a few days, even if readership is up. The whole thing is crazy!! Thanks for commenting, Teri.

   Not a clue, Yves, and I have been here over seven years. In the early days I had a number of hubs scoring in the 90s and even had a Hubber score of 94 at one stage. Now, I cannot get any hubs scoring 90 and my Hubber score hovers between 84 and 87.  Maybe I was a better writer back then, but I doubt it. No matter what I do my average overall hub score is always 71 or 72, even if I delete my lowest scoring hubs. If I do that a number of other hub scores drop so my average doesn't go up. Weird.

      Jodah, that matches my experience as well, though half my hubs are in the 80's. But I had a score of 90+ like you. Now, it keeps getting lower. In your case, it has nothing to do with down votes. Maybe those with high scores just have more traffic.

   This is an important question for many here at HP. It has been around for the six years I have been here. Right now, I am inspired but can’t decide what genre to write a Hub about it. Choices would be; Informational with speculation, satirical humor, or a sci-fi fictional story. I will think about it. If I do, I will post here as a second answer. A few titles I came up with are:
   
   Hub & Hubber Score and Entropy; A Space Odyssey

   Riddle me this, Riddle me that; My Hub & Hubber Scores have Borderline Personality Disorder

   I agree with Paula and others it is a mystery. And, I will quote HP; “Please try to avoid getting too hung up on the HubScores of your articles”. I think that has more relevance after the initial score has been established by the QAP. Getting a good score on a Hub through the QAP is a different matter altogether.
   
   There are two links following. One is at the FAQ and one the Learning Center now called HubPages Help. The HubPages Help article is more helpful and I think is updated for Today’s criteria. Of importance regarding fluctuating scores are those criteria in my view are ranked by importance with assigned values. For instance, for Hubber Score the first listed is; 'The collective HubScores of your Hubs' or their average. The last is; 'The number and quality of Answers you have given'.

   I haven't got a clue and am of the opinion that they do not want us to know. Maybe, "Classified Information".  Why worry about it anyway.

      I think you've got their number, John. I personally feel that we are "not to know." I see too much inconsistency & I don't appreciate it. But...life isn't fair. Sometimes I resent that. Oh, well...
