Do you write only to get published and earn money or for self expression?
I enjoy writing for HubPages and the money is a nice bonus. I enjoy writing books for the fun of it but it doesn't earn me any money How about you?
Thanks Poppy for your response to the question! Like many I also love to express myself The little money is a nice bonus. When I announce to my family that today's party is from me as I got the payout today, they are extremely happy and proud of me.
I've never earned much money from HubPages so I guess I'd say "self expression."
I enjoy writing goofy stuff about bad movies and heavy metal music. If I can make occasional beer money from doing it, then that's a bonus.
I barely need to make an answer of my own, this sums it up so succinctly!
Thanks Keith Abt for answering the question! It's the same for most of us here. Self expression is the reason to keep writing, even if there is small amount of money. The fact that others are reading your work is very satisfying.
Thank you !
Well, I enjoy writing, so do it for self expression really. I've not earned a lot of money on Hubpages as yet, but I do enjoy writing articles here. I like how you can make your hubs more interesting with the addition of pictures and different capsules. Plus, I enjoy reading other peoples articles here.
Thanks Louise Powles for sharing your views!
Yes I agree with you. Self expression is the reason most of us write here or at some other platform. HubPages no doubt provides user friendly formatting, capsules etc. that makes our work really decent.
I enjoy writing as a form of self expression but I actually love to write poetry and short fiction stories. I publish here on HubPages to earn extra money writing how-to style articles (which is a way I can earn money from home doing something I find exciting and fun).
Same here Kierstin Gunsberg !
I enjoy my time at HubPages. This is a very supportive community and although the money is small , I feel satisfied that others are reading what I write and also benefitting from it.
Thanks for your response!
I've been writing for Hub pages over 2 years and have had almost 70 featured articles. I have yet to make a single penny! I'm signed up to all that I can for ad revenue, but apparently I am not doing something right. Being paid was my original motivation, and honestly I need the income.
But, over time I've learned that what is important most to me is the act of writing and creating. And then sharing what I've written and hoping to have a positive impact on a reader.
So, I guess I write for myself to get the word out and help others, but ever hopeful to generate an income and to eventually publish something I've written. Great Question!
You summed it up very correctly, I can relate to it. Initially I also thought there will be lot of money but it took me almost one and a half years to get the first payout. By that time I was more interested in creating/ writing rather than earning.
I write mainly for self-expression and my own satisfaction. If people view my posts and comment, I feel happy. Earning money is a good thing but it depends on one's luck. My earnings till now (in all these 3 years) is not even one-fifth of the 100 dollar target required to get a payment. Even then, I feel much satisfied with my writings and the company of friends.
Thank you for responding and I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one yet to earn any money of note! I too write first and foremost for myself and to hopefully enlighten or help others. I sure could use the income, but trusting in the Universe.
Thank You Venkatachari Ji for responding! It's the same for most of us. I enjoy writing, reading others work and getting feedback from this interactive HP community. Self expression is the reason to keep me going even if there is little money. Thanks
I write to vent out information that I think others can see as useful. I feel fulfilled when I help, some people's life purpose is to give/help others, it's a life-purpose. Our God-given gifts is better when shared with others.
Very well said Ann ! Sharing what we know with others is itself very satisfying. We do it throughout our lives, don't we! I also love doing it through my writing and truly enjoy reading others work as well.
Thank You for sharing your views!
I write primarily for self-expression. I have been on Hub Pages for over 6 years and have received 3 payouts of $50 each. I like the Hub Pages forum because of the feed back I get. I have been able to hone my message to a specific area that seems to connect with others. I also enjoy reading what others have written on that subject.
Thanks Denise for your response! Your articles are without doubt very much helpful and I am sure many people must have benefited from them. This is the real reward and must be very satisfying indeed.
I also think in the same way as you. Thank you!
I write because it's what I enjoy and now that I am retired it gives me a sense of purpose. I haven't made any money yet but a sufficient number of readers to reach my payment threshold would validate the effort that I put in to writing my ariticles. The cash would be a secondary pleasure.
Thank you Glenis Rix for your valuable answer!
Yes a sense of purpose--You are right! With writing and reading in ones mind one can never feel lonely or get bored.
A little bit of money is always a pleasure for something that satisfies oneself!
I write hoping to earn money. The one article I have steady views is a how-to article. I don't have enough articles with traffic to make even a yearly payout.
I write and post poetry now and then. That is for self-expression. I have written articles that I would classify as self-expression too. They do not generate steady traffic. They eventually kinda' tank in views after the initial impact.
I haven't written many articles in the past two years or so. I am thinking of writing self expression articles again.
Thanks Tim Mitchell for responding to the question!
Sometimes even the most well written hubs do not fetch traffic. But writing for self expression is very satisfying and I think most writers would agree to that. Thank you and keep up the good work
I write as a lifelong hobby and wish to better my writing in time. I enjoy reading others work and being open to assistance and influences.
In the modern world, it can be socially isolating at times when work takes over ones social life and socialisation from screens eg social media is so widely used. It is good to express self and be part of something, HubPages provides a great avenue for this.
I have read and written all my life. I suppose in a monetary sense we all hope to make an income from our hobbies. My biggest hope is with a novel series which I have been working on for eleven years.
Thank you for your response shon1121
Most of us write for self expression and you are right about socialisation. One can never feel lonely or bored if they write or read and that includes me.
Wish you all the best for your novel series. Thank You

I have been on hubpages almost two months and I just enjoy writing. Is there others here who just want to write and are not concerned about the money?

I write 5 hubs a day. 2 of them are quality hubs that I enjoy writing and put my most effort to, the rest are there to share some kind of information I think is interesting. But these are not as good and I actually struggle to write them. So how many of your hubs are you satisfied with?
