I've been getting more questions about certain articles in my personal email the last few months instead of readers leaving comments.
I first thought they were legit but now suspect its part of a phishing expedition and I checked off on my profile to stop getting emails but they are still occuring.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I have had a few but they all seem genuine to me. Must say I prefer the comments to having to reply to emails.
I was getting a lot of questions and spammy hate mail the past few months as well. I reported a couple as spam and have since disabled author contact as I kept getting e-mails. I have not received any e-mails from readers though since I disabled the option.
Stacie, Since you say you are still getting emails from readers, I bet you disabled the wrong thing. Don’t diable the ability to receive emails from HubPages. What you want to do is disable the ability to contact the author (you).
I also agree with Jean (what she said in her comment) that we really don’t need Author Contact anymore since the Q&A allows people to send you questions. In addition, the Q&A is safer because they don’t get your email address when you reply. They get notified from a non-moderated address.
This no doubt is the result of the new Q and A feature where you are told a question has been posted, you click on the link, correct the grammar and spelling if necessary and then answer the question. You do not have to answer every question and you do earn for those you spend time answering.
If any other emails are coming to your personal email, you can block them or go into your settings and shut down the option to receive emails...however, if you do this second one, you won't get emails from HP either.
When the team started the contact the author feature, some people started using it, so that is probably the culprit. I'm not sure you can block that feature.
I get a lot of emails with questions relating to hubs I have written. They have all been genuine from what I can tell, and even some very kind ones thanking me for the helpful hub. I do wish the readers would comment instead of emailing. Especially when the specific question is directly related to the hub topic.
I get personal emails, but am an astrologer and a lot of what the person has to ask me about is personal in nature. I have a different site of my own for them to go to, but some of them come to me from here, not the bulk though. I agree, normally the person should leave a comment, and now we have the Q&A feature. So there really is no reason they have to email you.
I can imagine a lot of people looking for free!
HI misterhollywood,
OMG, everybody wants readings for free! I have explained how complex it is to draw up and interpret a chart so many times, I should really put a disclaimer on the bottom of all the astrology hubs. I only have a few tarot ones, about a specific, hard to find deck.
I've been tough on the Q&A bunch. I asked myself a question and said I could interpret the Sun, Moon and Ascendant (as you know, the Trinity) because I can do that in ten minutes.
The most questions are about Scorpios. I don't know where people are getting the idea they are so evil. I think I shared a few of the oddball questions I got about those difficult Scorps to you. I have a great idea for a hub, will send a copy when I get around to doing it. It's deliciously evil!
Take care.
I have people claiming to be students and teachers wanting to cite some articles and wanting my last name.
I did this for the first few but now feeling suspicious
Same thing used to happen with me. Detailed questions asking for help. Initially, I did my best to reply, but I couldn't keep up with the volume of emails. Also, it means that there are less comments.
I eventually changed my profile so that I couldn't be contacted and it did work for me.

I have been getting one or two questions every day in my email through the new "contact the author" feature. The questions have been very important; almost always they are questions/details that can help other readers.Since these readers are sending emails instead of leaving the...

I really like the new Q&A feature on individual hubs. What I'd like to know is if there's a way to delete a question if it's inappropriate? For example, I have one now. Let's say the hub is about apple pies, their origin and history, and the question is 'What is apple?' That's just a made up...

I now have 17 articles published and most are in niche sites. Why am I not getting comments from readers? I have very few comments so far. Is this related to quantity of impressions, where the more impressions I rack up I could get more comments coming in?Appreciate any ideas.

Today, to help people more easily contact an author, we added a link to email the author that respects the author's setting in their preferences. Hopefully, this will lead to folks getting a few good emails from time to time.

I have several articles that dropped in both scoring and interest, once moved to Letter Pile. They were dragging my overall score down, so I unpublished them. Nothing has changed, they still seem to be affecting my overall score ?? I've also deleted several articles and it has, apparently, made no...

Why do people that don't believe in God, respond to questions about God?Don't get me wrong. I respect and appreciate every response, even if they disagree. That is everyone's right. But I usually don't waste time and energy in things that I don't believe in. Sure, I don't believe in Santa and still...
