I was wondering if the use of an avatar rather than a personal pic. makes a difference in dollars and cents? That whole a face to trust thing. Has anyone ever tried to see if it does? If so would you share what you learned?
An avatar is okay. Just upload one with personality (no a logo or something) and you'll be fine. Yours is good.
Yeah most artists are fragment of their own imaginations anyway.....show ur self if you're on a dating site....
I actually found no difference in either. For a short while, I posted a pic of the real me, then went back to this one or one like it and found no change in the traffic flow.
Just do not leave at the default avatar (do we have one here? i dont remember). That will show you're too uncaring to upload a pic.
Think outside the box (or at least outside HubPages). There are plenty of websites and blogs where people don't use their likeness and still manage to earn money.
I have changed my avatar to multiple different things, including myself and not seen a change in traffic or anything else.
I've always felt pressure to use a real picture - I've been told it gives you more credibility, and if you want to be seen as a professional writer that's important.
However I'm definitely getting mixed messages these days (just after I changed my picture to a portrait, LOL!). I notice Sufidreamer has replaced his photo with an avatar, and Darkside's enigmatic eyes have been replaced with a Star Wars-type poster. And Cagsil, who made it a condition of being in the "ladies" Hub that we had to have a real picture, now has an avatar as well!
I used a real pic for a while. I don't see any difference. I think on these sites an appropriate avatar works. If someone is really interested and reads our hubs, the writing speaks more than any avatar or real pic. I like a degree of privacy online, and the avatars are fun.
look at someone like relache, she has an artsy drawing and we all know she does very well here.
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your willingness to share what you have learned.
Btw- for those who haven't noticed, I bounce between my real picture and several other avatars.
The only difference I noticed is when I had my bikini avatar. Lots of new fans and lots of e-mails.. My hub views increased as well.
Your avatar image is also used as your favicon for your profile pages
My current avatar is actually just my old favicon for another site.
I change my avatar all the time, cant really see any traffic change as a result.
If you write about a variety of topics, especially some that may have more serious or heavy topics, you should probably consider the impact your avatar may have on your perceived authority
oh man.....did search function break again?...
I get tons more traffic within HP with a sexy pic, that has nothing to do with $. Quality of keywords and all that SEO stuff earns money.
HP traffic does not click on ads. But counts towards hubscore though

So, feel free to comment on other people's avatars or ask questions, and start by commenting on Yours Me: This is really (what's her name?) oh, Katy Perry.

HubPages asks that you include a picture of yourself in your profile. I see pictures of people, but also pictures of cats, dogs, scenery, boats, babies, etc. Some say a picture of yourself boosts your image and status among fellow Hubbers. So what's the deal with the unusual avatars?Does the...

I've noted that some of you hubbers change your Avatar as often as I change my underwear....about once a week. Does the appeal of a given avatar affect your hits? Or is it your mood or personality of the moment? Afre you more apt to read a hub if the avatar is sexy as opposed to a...

I'm considering changing my profile picture because I want to be more professional but I don't know. What are your thoughts? I know many people have changed their pictures to resemble what their hubs are and I want to make sure my readers and fans know clearly what I write about most often and what...

Why do hubbers go to all the trouble of posting hundreds of hubs, creating really informative profiles then post a picture of their dog, cat, bird, avatar or favourite comic strip character? If I buy a book I get to see the author on the back cover. A photo of the person who has written the work....

As some hubbers know this pic has a reason. The other day ,in a thread we were discussing if women with almost no clothes on, on an avatar, will attract traffic. And I said I will give it a try, putting a pic of myself and see what happens.Well I must say that it works !All my hubs have red arrows....
