    Hi Hubbers,

I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my article First Therapy Session and Beyond (must be signed in to view). What can I do to improve? Thanks!

I don't think it comes off as promotional, I believe you are trying to write about what a therapy session is like. But you can't advertise a business in our profile. If you make it less personal and write it more in the third person, it may sound better.

I find that using fictional people in my articles usually leads them to being put on Letterpile.com, the creative writing site, even though this doesn't belong there, and my work doesn't either. But you can describe various types of sessions and how they worked as general info for people who have never been to a therapy session. Don't make up people, or call them "the patient" or "client" or "the therapist." You can still make this work.

Larger pictures are preferred. Try Pixabay.com or Pexels.com, and you can most likely find one similar to what you have here. Good luck!

        Hi Jean,
Thanks for your kind and helpful feedback. I think I'm going to scrap that article and try again.

        Thanks again,
        Melissa

Yikes, don't scrap it! That's painful as a writer. Just make some changes. It's a good piece, it just has to be more third person, as you describe a typical session a person with a specific issue could expect to experience if they never had a therapy session. It has merit! Hang in there.

Hi, Melissa. I think the problem is that your profile advertises your therapy and counseling service and your article describes your successful sessions with one of your clients. The article could be viewed as self promotional. HubPages generally doesn't accept promotion of this type.

Besides the apparent promotional problem that Alicia points out there are other issues.

You can only use Creative Commons licensed images. Do you have permission to use the one you have?

    Grammar problems. Take this paragraph"

"Donna frequently brought up how sleeping in her childhood bedroom felt weird. (always put a space after a period. This happens elsewhere in your article) It reminded her of staying up until 4AM (correct uage is 4 a.m.) every night on the internet. I talked to Donna about how memories can sometimes cause a person to revert back (redundancy - you can't revert forward) to the person she was when she lived there before.

Try running your text through a program such as Grammarly to locate mistakes.

However, the promotional link is the major problem.

I don't mean to be rude, but the lack of a clear statement that the client is changed enough to be anonymous and/or gave her permission strikes me as questionable.  And in general, even though I write here, I would not leap at visiting a therapist that solicits clients on a content site.

If you're not writing here on HP to promote yourself (which is not really allowed), I would suggest you write about therapy in general. The different kinds of problems people could face and how they could overcome them. Most things would need a visit to the doctor, but I'm sure you can write about some general ailments or general advice.

Having a lot of articles on the topic could increase your authority and maybe someday people will read your articles and find out that you practice in their area and come consult you.

It's not an easy path, but it definitely is something you could work on. Good luck.
