I've been writing online for three years, so far (through WordPress) and stumbled across HP on the 18th of this month. After checking to make sure it's safe, I dove in and decided to try and write. It's more addicting than I thought it would be.
I don't have any followers, as of yet, but I've managed to create eight (8) articles that have all been 'Featured.' Of these, a few of them were moved from HubPages to other, linked sites. I'm not entirely sure if that's an accomplishment, on my end, or something else altogether.
I've read a few articles, here and there. Everyone seems nice, so far.
I think I'm curious to know how well people have done in their first month. How many articles did they write? Was there much discussion? How often was something featured and how often were articles selected to be moved to HubPages alternate sites? I'm interested in knowing how this happens and how often others experience this right off the diving board. I'm still new and learning how HP works.
Thanks in advance!
Hi there,
If your articles are featured and some are on network sites, you are doing really well
The system has changed since I joined and I was involved in another site so it took a couple of years before I put any effort in. I'd put a few articles up (about 19) and then forgot about them. Then one day I got a payment, which was a total surprise. I was accepted onto the apprenticeship program (not running at the moment) and learned loads about writing online.
It's really different now; harder in some ways, easier in others.
Just keep learning and writing.
And welcome
The Theraggededge:
I would think it has changed a lot in the years HP has been around. All things online tend to have some major changes as they progress. New ideas, new systems, new ways of doing things. It will always be a learning process, I'd say.
I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do here. Thanks for jumping in and leaving a comment!
Welcome to HP, you're doing well. The other sites your hubs were moved to are labeled as niche sites and they are the ones that do well. Only the highest quality hubs are selected to be moved to these sites in order to maintain the quality of these websites.
Thanks, Lobobrandon!
I'm not entirely sure how they pick which articles have the 'highest quality,' but I'm pleased a few of mine fit into that description. Niche sites are a great way to draw attention to each writer's strongest traits, I'd say!
As Bev (theraggededge) pointed out, it is different now.
It is very hard to compare yourself to someone who joined two years ago, or four, or six, etc. You are doing well, but the great place about this site is that it is constantly changing, like the internet, and even if you sit down and learn everything you can at the moment you will need to learn new things as time passes.
Having articles moved to one of the alternative sites (niche sites) is great because if your work stays on Hubpages main site it is not going to draw much traffic. Go back through all of your articles and see what you can edit so that the hub can be moved. If you are not sure, check out the articles at each of the niche sites listed on the left of your main feed page.
Best of luck. Do not be afraid to edit constantly. Find the best title, organize your writings more, correct any grammatical or spelling errors, etc.
And, as previously mentioned, keep learning!
Dr. Mark1961:
The old write, read, and rewrite. Something anyone who's written a book (or has, at least, attempted to write one) knows well. Revisions and edits are a big part of writing. I do know the people who have been on here for years will do far better than I will, considering they have more articles that are far more mature and are also indexed by Google.
I can strive to better my own writing as much as possible, however. Which I plan to do. For now, it's just a matter of figuring out what to write about and then doing my best to work with what I know.
Thanks for stopping by!

Out of 12 articles 7 have been moved to niche sites. All 7 seemed to have a drop in viewers since being moved. Will this level out at some point?

I used to write on HubPages a lot; especially around 2011 & I was doing extremely well at one point. Last time I wrote a few articles was at the end of 2013. Are there any major changes I should be aware of? The website looks different compared to 2013-2014I noticed that you can submit to...

Curious how much more traffic your articles that have been moved to niche sites are getting compared to how much traffic they were getting on Hubpages main site.

This last year I improved my hubs and had 112 featured of 130 articles: Now suddenly they bust me down to only 30 featured hubs. I feel this contributes to a websites decline. I made a comment on a survey that I don't get any payout for this site and gave my opinion, and now...

Thank you for all of your contributions to HubPages over the past many years. You may have noticed that the HubPages operation is in a stage of transition as we move many of your articles back to Discover.HubPages from our network domains. This decision was made to try to capitalize on the...

Hi, I'm completely new to freelance writing and I thought I'd give it a shot because writing is second nature to me and it's something I really enjoy. But I'm not sure if a website like HubPages fits what I want to write about. It's been suggested to me that blogging is more up my alley. What I...
