If this passes you could well lose your Amazon affiliate status.

    From http://affiliateadvocacy.com/

"...Mississippi has now joined the ever growing list of states proposing legislation to require out of state merchants to collect sales tax. Mississippi Amazon tax is Senate Bill 2927 has been introduced. It seeks to amend the nexus definition to include out of state merchants who use anyone in state to get sales, including affiliates or online marketers. Mississippi online sales tax is now pending...If you use Mississippians to generate sales you would have a nexus. The impact of this would be huge. It would also set a precedent for legislation in other states.

It is also interesting to note that the wording of the proposed legislation is similar to some of laws that currently exist in other states; just makes it a little clearer to include online sales. If it passes the Mississippi modern nexus law would take effect July 2010."

The person who writes this blog is a NY affiliate who has been through this. If you want help fighting it, it's a great place to start. I think Mellie (I don't know her personally) is the most knowledgable person on this topic.

Thank you Nelle. I know eventually the states will look into this tax. It is a giant revenue generator!

If more and more states continue to do this, do you think Amazon or other affiliates will get involved?

I looked at the website Nelle posted, Colorado passed through the house & now going to the senate.
