Site expiration date and privacy option SEO effect

    And the other sites are not much better. And I noticed the privacy option is being used.

    It is well-known SEO speculation that Google considers short expiration terms and the use of the privacy option as negative indicators.

    Considering the relative expense involved versus the impact on earning potential, Maven/HP might want to discontinue these two practices.

    Just a thought.

        Does this just mean they have to renew before the date posted?

          Yep, all it will cost hem is around $12 per year. For the previously mentioned SEO reasons, they should fork over $60 for 5 years, instead of doing this one-year-at-a-time thing they've been doing.

            One year at a time is scary.  It indicates to me that they see no future for the niche sites. It's like taking a month to month lease on an apartment that you plan on renting for less than a year.

    Well, I tacked on 5 years to my website. Traffic has increased. Cause and effect? Or coincidence? You decide.

      In the past, when I bought domains for a bulk period of time I would also see a positive effect. It used to be a consideration for SEO. I've been out of that particular area of SEO for a while, so I don't know what affects on-site SEO these days.

      That said, I don't see what the big deal would be to shell out a bit to get all the times secured for a longer period of time. Methinks HP is pinching pennies in too many places where it's not necessarily (and perhaps harmful to the network and to the community.)
