New hubber here. I've read on SEO and its importance, but I have no idea how to check for a word's or a phrase's traffic.

Another question is if for instance, my title is 'Checking for Your Cold Symptoms', do I check the traffic for the entire title, or do I type in specific phrases like 'cold symptoms'? And does the traffic for the word 'cold' apply to the phrase 'cold symptoms' because it contains the word 'cold', or does that phrase stand on its own?

    Please kindly guide!

Anny, you don't have to worry about it. SEO has changed a lot over the last few years. If you write interesting, informative articles with search-friendly titles, you'll be fine.

There is an easy way to see what's being searched for on any particular topic. Type the topic into Google, don't press Enter/search. Can you see some suggestions appear? They are helpful in knowing what people are looking for.

Now press Enter and scroll down. You'll see a box that says 'Other people are searching for...' and more suggestions. You'll get ideas for titles or part-titles and angles to take when approaching the topic.

Then scroll right to the bottom - there are more.

Go try it. Type in 'Cheese' and see what appears.

Edit: Just looking at your articles - be careful you are not just writing topics that are already saturated. Either take a completely original angle, or look for less popular issues, but ones worth writing about.

In addition to what Bev says, don't write articles about topics which are very similar to existing topics on HubPages or have similar titles using similar keywords.  An existing, older article may have a monopoly on important keywords used in its title and Google limits the number of results that appear from the same domain, i.e. website, for these keywords in search results. In fact only one result may be shown and your article never listed.
