Can you entirely make a living off hubpages as a writer? if yes, how?

Some people have in the past but they had exceptional SEO skills and wrote in the right niche.

Probably not. It can be a good source of passive income on the side if you have some really good articles that have been performing well over time. I am assuming it must be extremely rare for someone to earn equivalent to a full time job solely by writing on hubpages. Definitely not impossible but would require extraordinary writing skills, SEO skills and a tremendous amount of hardwork.

Yes, If your articles answer the questions that are being searched for, and if your articles are moved tô a niche site where they can gain good traffic. Not easy, as others point out, and I have no Idea what income you are looking for.

I don’t think so. That would be a hard life writing on HubPages for a living.

I don’t think you can say that unless you have access to private information about the accounts of people who write here. I’ve heard of one person who was making the equivalent of a full-time income in the past. I don’t know how common that is now or if it’s even possible today. If it is possible, I think it probably depends on a person writing suitable articles in the correct niche, as some other people have said in this thread. It also depends on the amount of money that is considered to be an adequate income in different countries.

Linda, thank you for wading in.                                    In the past that's easy. I knew of some writers here that would make an average income equavalent to what Tess is making now at Medium. Such writers seems to have been drift away to high paying websites.                                  Like as wilderness has said, if any here receives an average monthly payout equal to a mnnths pay(depending on which country), it's NOW less than 1%.

Miebakagh, my point is that you can't be definite because you are not part of the HubPages staff and don't have access to the writers' records. Wilderness says that he "guesses" about the less than 1% number, which is all any of us can do.

Let's give you a realistic view on the matter using myself as the example. Everything I list here will be from what I can measure at the moment I type this.

Number of articles I have written: 249
Number of articles ranking #1 on Google for their key words/phrases: 3
Number of articles on Google page 1 for some of their key words/phrases: 11
Number of articles that get constant organic views: 19
Estimate amount I make per month from those 19 articles that get organic views: ~$20+ USD/month passively (just ads)

Now, I'm not going to do the math on what it would be if all 249 of my articles were on my money-making niche topic, but I'd say it'd be pretty easy to make a livable income off of HubPages if you really put effort into it.

It is difficult but not impossible to earn an amount equal to the average income in Kenya.  I'd guess that something under 1% of the writers on HP accomplish that.

Far more earn $10 per month, though.  It takes work, and lots of it.

I would not expect it. If you do, you are probably putting in enough work to have the hours of a fulltime job or more doing something else, but that is just my personal opinion.

I remember when our founder, Paul. Posted a payout of 10K to one of our writers. That is pretty darn good for monthly income. But, I am sure the spectrum is all over the place for other writers.

Barring a top few the proposition seems to be difficult.

I've been here for 11 years.  All my articles are featured. I have close to 5 million views.  My payout is less than it was 2 years ago. My answer would be no.

I'm nowhere, REMOTELY, near earning a living here, but I dare say whatever I have here helps me to earn a living writing for other sites.

The niche sites are great portfolio to show, especially if you have hubs that are ranking in Google. Major newspapers and magazines might not be impressed, but typical travel sites, lifestyle portals, etc, would be impressed.

I tested this, BTW. I applied for a couple of writing jobs last year using my Owlcation and WanderWisdom portfolio. Out of 5 applications, I was successful with 4.

I believe that it's just about possible to earn a four figure monthly sum here. Earnings that would be considered a low part-time wage in the US, but might be considered a full time wage in Kenya?

Only a small percentage earn in the hundreds here, I think, and those that do undertake a lot of work and research, and it takes them months/years of graft. To a large extent, writing to earn is done in a very deliberate way. It's relatively easy to write blog style posts, or poems, but they won't generally generate much income.

"How to" articles are often the best. Whether it's how to replace the filter on a certain brand of clothes dryer, how to reach a certain level in a computer game, or how to prepare for a job interview as a high school teacher. These are examples of the sorts of practical guides that people seek.
