    Hello Beautiful souls,

    I have a question, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
    Why does HubPages allow people outside of HP to view our activity log and let them send us emails? Wouldn't it be nice to have some privacy? I mean only if people who are logged in can see our activities, and only if they are members of the community. Why is it so open to everyone (Public)? Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

      I wasn't aware outsiders can view our activity logs, Misbah. Shoot, I wasn't aware WE can view each others' activity logs!

      I don't really like the Contact button. Several times I've gotten emails from people I don't know. They have legitimate questions, but once you reply to them, they can see your email address. That's a bit uncomfortable.

      I've also been reached out to by Hubbers, which is usually a nice surprise and I welcome it. But, I agree, there should be a safer, more private way for outsiders to contact the author.

      Hey, I know! Let's give them a Comment button! cool

        ++++
        I'm not sure why they allow the public to view the activity history.

      I don't mind receiving emails from members of our community. There are a lot of excellent and respectable people on the board. Many of them have my email address, but receiving emails from sources other than Hubpages is inconvenient. Many times, I've seen folks begin to follow you and send messages using the contact button.
      My profile doesn't have a contact button. I used to have that, but I no longer have it. I also removed the Pinterest button from my profile because it was annoying.
      Thank you so much!
      Blessings to you!

      Bev, in choosing the HP option you show above, is that for staff only or does it include HP authors as well?

        At that location for the ? mark it says;

        To change the email address associated with your HubPages account enter it and save changes. To receive regular emails from HubPages, including the Newsletter, please check the "allow HubPages to contact you" box. If you don't want your readers to be able to contact you by email, you can uncheck the "allow others to contact you" box. Allowing readers to contact you does not reveal your email to them unless you reply to their message.

          I feel there should be a way to hide that contact button from the general public. smile

        Staff only, I think.

        HP authors come under 'others'. x

    Why do they let anybody ( the public) view our activity log? This feature, I believe, provides outsiders an inside view of our platform. I think that is not needed.
    Though, I believe, it's fine if only community members can see it. This can help us in catching up with each other, but the general public does not need it in my opinion.

      Yep, it's a little disconcerting. I logged out of HP, then went to your profile and I can see: about, activity, followers, following, and fan mail.
