Apologies to the author Antonia Monacelli, but this was plonked in the middle of a text capsule of an article for kids on Owlcation under "Read More From Owlcation". Should there be an age approval for certain content on niche sites and that content excluded from promotion on educational articles? Anytime I reload my guide, different "murderous" children appear.
I am a big fan of the "read more" widget. Done correctly, it can have major benefits for the niche sites and individual writers. But for that to happen, the content has to be tightly related. As you are seeing, it isn't always.
Owlcation in particular is notorious for unrelated content appearing in so-called related sections. This is likely due to the wide range of content on the site. When unrelated content appears it looks spammy at best. In cases like you are seeing, it can be wildly inappropriate.
On the other hand, all three of those articles you pointed out can link to each other and it would make total sense. It is not that there is any problem with the articles themselves.
It isn't enough that content is on the same site. It must be closely related. No links to articles about kittens on fish articles. No links to articles about k-pop bands on articles about guitars.
Hopefully, HP will tighten this up and we can put these concerns about murderous children behind us in 2022. (lol)
I know there are several education categories geared towards school and helping children, but I think HP still has a policy about no one under 13 or 16 depending on jurisdiction are suppose to use the platform. Likewise if we write something that is clearly noted to be geared for younger ages the article will not be published.
I think this generation of children has been exposed to so much violence and hatred already that those articles sadly would not be that big of a shock to them. I don't think we should be unnecessarily exposing them to more inappropriate age content, but keeping in mind 13 and over it's hard to imagine this would be deemed inappropriate. Definitely unrelated and should not be shown for that reason alone.
That said, I agree Owlcation really needs a better recommended section where they are at least contained to the same subcategory. I wish they would rework the whole algorithm so it would stop breaking up text like in your example. Your first class levers get lost under the unrelated articles.
I'm not saying that the articles themselves are inappropriate, but they shouldn't be on an educational article intended for young people. I can imagine a student telling their parents that they've just read a helpful article about levers but there was information about children who committed murders in the middle of the article.
It's also unfortunate that the phrase "Examples of first class levers" is shown right before the links and the examples of the levers after them.
These ads should not be there. Unfortunately, I speculate these are intentional as causing mental anguish.

As far as I can tell, this article's ad revenue doesn't need to be disabled because it does not fall outside of the standards for receiving ad revenue. It would seem some of the language is triggering the automatic features. I could be completely wrong, though. Second opinion? Objective input from...

Is there any way to eliminate the automated inappropriate article suggestions/promotions featured in my articles? They aren't even close to the topics I write about—in fact, they are the complete opposite subject matters and offensive. One featured a woman bending forward with her cleavage ready to...

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that HP has started the process of mining articles from Discover. The new Owlcation articles have the same title as the ones on Discover (in most cases) and the URLs are identical as well. The only difference is the beginning. For example,...
