   I'm having another of those strange bumps in views. An article on Delishably that usually struggles to garner readers suddenly had 7,500 in the last 24 hours. Something to do with this "news" thing that I completely fail to grasp.
   
   Long may it continue. Optimist that I am I expect somebody at Goggle will notice the anomaly and put a stop to it.

      The person that wrote the news article probably included a hyperlink to your article, so congrats on that! It may not happen all of the time but is fine according to Google policies at this time so hopefully it will continue.

         Yes, Dr. Mark, there was a considerable spike in income. Then, just as quickly as the increase happened, views went back to normal and so did revenue.

   What is your article about?  If it's something recent or evergreen it may spike in traffic depending on the time of year.

   Where is that spike in traffic coming from? Is it from Google or from a news article that hyperlinked to your article as DrMark suggested? You can see that in its stats under the referrers tab.

   Hi Glenn in my stats the news links are showing up as MSN amd cdm.ampproject.com
   The cdm site is owned by Google but an increase in views from there does not appear to be changing page rank on Googles search engine

   Glenn - I checked referrers and found about 1,000 were from MSN and 350 from Delishably. That doesn't account for the total. Perhaps, my Aunt Edna has been busy doing click fraud. Point of information, I don't have an Aunt Edna.

      That information with the additional referrers might update tomorrow. You might see more of where it’s all coming from by then. Nevertheless, the 1,000 from MSN looks promising. You should be proud. I’m sure Aunt Edna is. lol.

      If there was an MSN link it was probably a new story posted by the editing team. As the number of views from that site goes up, your article showed up in the "popular" algorithm for Delishably so would have shown up on the "Read More" too.

    It seems Aunt Edna and her faithful hound, Spike, have been at it again. This time they've pulled an old article about saucy British postcards out of obscurity and into four-digit territory. The referrer thingy says this time they've pranked Facebook.
    
    If anyone would like to hire Aunt Edna and Spike I can arrange an introduction. There will, of course, be a substantial finder's fee.

       I certainly do not understand it but amp stands for accelerated mobile project. That address is a Google owned property so I think it is searches on android Cell phones. The changes to our articles to allow traffic amp was made by the HP team

       It's a link within the text itself. Second paragraph. Click on "expensive menu". It takes the reader right to your article.

    Traffic to my most recent article, which was posted about a week ago, suddenly took off like it had a rocket up its butt, which almost never happens. Usually I'm doin' a happy dance if one of my articles gets 100 views in the first week, but this is exceptional. Whatever is behind it, please do go on!

       Keith, is it on a site that has the new News feature? If so, check those that may be close to the theme of your article, click on it and click on the links within the text. My guess is, one of those articles is linking to yours.
       
       At first I didn't like the news feature, but it seems to be bringing traffic to related articles.
       
       Let me know what you find. I'm curious!

                Yea, I noticed that (and I'm grateful/flattered!), but it doesn't explain why/how the views on this one particular article blew up into the thousands, while three others I posted in the same week are pulling down single digit views per day, if I'm lucky...
                
                Whatever. It's weird as hell but I'll take it.

             I know you were tryin' to be funny with that band name, but believe it or not, according to the encyclopedia site Metal-Archives.com, there have been no less than FOUR (!) bands calling themselves "Death Vomit" over the years.. so ownership of an actual Death Vomit tee shirt is entirely possible.
             
             (by the way, no, I did not check out what any of these bands sound like. I absolutely cannot stand black or death metal, no matter how "raw" or "brutal" it may be. )

    Mystery solved. A friend sent me this shot of his mobile Google screen this AM, my Spinditty piece was the third story under articles on Kiss and Scorpions.
    
    He was like "Hey, look at you, Mr. Big Shot!"
    
    It would be nice if the Google Gods would smile on me like this a lil' more often, but for now I'm just going to enjoy the ride while it lasts.

    I can somehow relate to that. Last year, I wrote an article about wearing masks in relation to COVID-19. In two days, I saw a peak in the article (700-900 views in each of the two days). When I checked the referall section, I saw a news app has directed their readers to the link of my arricle.

       I like to follow my spikes, too, it's fun, even if they rarely amount to much in the long run. Music articles and things like pop culture (eg articles on celebs) can be particularly fickle, in my experience. Sometimes I know why they're spiking (eg biopics, in the news, anniversaries) but sometimes it's a mystery to me.
