Maybe I'm jaded, but I don't normally get terribly excited about one-off surges. However, there's one happening for me right now where the traffic's gone up to nearly 11,000 views in a day!

I'll be interested to see where it peaks, before it inevitably fades away.

Its funny. I came on to look if anyone was seeing a drastic drop--which I am experiencing today. And I see this very exciting news!
I hope you ride this wave for at lest another few days!

I suspect that the views are coming from MSN, but the HP source stats haven't caught up yet.

Me too Paul although the numbers are not as spectacular as yours. It started about five days ago and is continuing and it is an MSN thing. Yippee.

      Yes, it's looking like MSN.

While it's possible for any site to source a surge (eg Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) in practice it's generally MSN, Android, or Google nowadays.

I've got a lot of hubs, so I'm used to sometimes getting surges in the hundreds. Maybe one or two thousand occasionally. I think this one might be my biggest ever, though.

It's up to 12,200 now. I wonder what the earnings will be for it? Often, they actually turn out to be relatively disappointing, but we'll see...

Stats for daily views up to 14,542 now. It's probably close to peaking, but those are crazy numbers!

The daily earnings figure is also more than the account in question usually makes in a month!

I don't usually get giddy about surges, but this one has been something else.

Nice! The same thing happened to one of my articles a few months ago - it suddenly went from zero to several thousand views overnight, and stayed that way for a couple of days. .

It turned out that Google had featured it on their mobile home page for a day or two. The ride didn't last long but it was certainly fun while it did!

That's crazy, Paul. Congrats! I had one to surge around the same time. It wasn't nearly as much as your surge, but the article did get a couple thousand more views per day than normal. It's winding down now at hundreds more than normal. I appreciate the extra pocket change. wink Enjoying it while it lasts. I may even make payout after a couple dry months.

wow.  just curious.  what is your largest most previous surge?

    1. PaulGoodman67 profile image68
PaulGoodman67posted 2 years agoin reply to this

Surges from Google where it's obvious why, I've had maybe 10,000 for a day. My Freddie Mercury article got a lot of attention, for instance, when the movie Bohemian Rhapsody came out a few years back.

Other, more random surges, e.g. where MSN highlights an article, I normally just get hundreds, or maybe one or two thousand at most, though it can (rarely) get up to 5 or 6 thousand views.

I've had nothing at this level before.

I've got lots of hubs spread over ten accounts and I've been around for years, so I'm going to experience my portion of random rare events here, I guess.

I still think that chasing solid, reliable, daily Google traffic is the main aim, though. Surges are fun, but they are here today and gone tomorrow.  smile

Views dropped down to 9,000 early yesterday. I figured that they would continue to fall like a stone throughout the day, but instead, they then climbed back up to around 12,500 where they remain.

Sorry to bang on about it, but this is stunning. I'm on the third day now.

It will no doubt end at some point, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts. It's a travel article too, so the earnings aren't insubstantial.

That's amazing, Paul. I don't get that many views in a month, let alone on one article! Very cool.

That's great. I am getting a surge too, but not nearly as large as yours. However, more action than usual is good.

  11. PaulGoodman67 profile image68

This surge has been a bright, but tiny light in a dark environment. I don't think that I would have got quite so giddy if HP overall was generally doing better.

I think the surge might now be subsiding.

That's terrific - Congrats!  So how are the earnings panning out for you?  My surges were somehow less profitable than I had imagined they would be.

    1. PaulGoodman67 profile image68
PaulGoodman67posted 2 years agoin reply to this

Yeah, profitability depends on the traffic source and keywords, which can turn out to be disappointing in some instances.

We're not supposed to discuss earning figures in the forums, but I will say that this article has passed the HP payment threshold more than once.

Great to hear of your surge in views and earnings Paul. Phenomenal events like this, happening to a few other HP writers I think, are inspiring and bring a special kind of hope, even if they're a one-off or infrequent.

As a veteran contributor you've been there and back a few times and got the Tshirt when it comes to persistence and hard work, so the surge is well deserved I say.

Other writers will be encouraged by this, naturally so. I urge them also to keep churning out fresh, quality articles so that HP's bedrock strengthens and deepens. Bread and butter traffic to the niche sites is what sustains.

Thank you for your kind words chef, and yes, I agree.

I sometimes get the impression from the forums that many good writers here don't publish much anymore, some haven't produced anything new for months or even years.

I've actually produced more material in the last 18 months or two years than at any point previously. Sometimes it feels like treading water in terms of views and earnings, I'll admit. It's good to get anything in the current climate. smile

Mine's down to around 1,500 views, it's been dropping since yesterday. I'm not expecting a big payout tomorrow, maybe five mangos and a bag of gold potatoes, if I'm lucky.
