Do You Unpublish Articles Before Editing?

I have a major overhaul I need to do on one article, changing diagrams and the annotations on them. If anyone visits it during editing, it'll be totally confusing because changes in variables in equations and symbols on diagrams will be half finished. The problem with edit mode is that changes are saved immediately and "Done Editing" actually does nothing AFAIK.

I wasn't aware that articles are viewable when the author is editing.

Edits are saved straight away after you click "save" on a capsule. "Done Editing" doesn't actually do anything.

No. The 'done editing' finally saved the edit.

No. I do everything in Word, etc, the copy and paste.

I guess if it requires major surgery like you describe, it might not be a bad idea to unpublish it before making wholesale changes.

If you're doing simple fixes like correcting typos or changing photos/videos, though, I don't think it would be necessary.

A trick I mentioned in one of my tutorials is to make extensive changes in hidden capsules. Then make all the hidden capsules visible only after you’re done editing. That way you don’t have to unpublish the entire article while working on it.

I also do the same thing Ced mentioned. I do all the editing and additions in Word and then modify the article in HP in one go.That way, there is minimum intermittent time.

What I usually do if I'm making extensive changes to an article is to copy the whole article and paste it on Word. After I'm through with the article, I click the edit button and paste the changed article.

I'm kind of afraid if I unpublish an article, particularly if it's performing well, it might lose its position or score in Google search results since the search engine will consider it as a new article.

I republished an article, edited it, and republished it. The result of republishing the article led it to losing the position it was on Google search results.

Unpublishing an article for less than a day doesn't appear to remove an article from the featured list of articles so probably there's a delay before Hubpages removes it from their system or tells Google to deindex it.

I think is 24 hours before Hubpages removes it from the system.

It's after 24 hours. A minute or two after this time makes a difference.

No - unless there is sone catastrophic error in the hub I would rather have it live - especially if others are linking to it
