Ad Program earnings have skyrocketed over the past week. Is there an explanation for this? New ad revenue stream or some kind of malfunction?

Declining earnings. I would have thought, given the information in your bio, and all your success as an entrepreneur, that earning pennies at HubPages may not be very rewarding for you.

Anyway, if you decide to stay and write, welcome smile

You'll find a ton of information in the Learning Center, click Help, top right, to navigate there.

Oh, he's gone sad There's a lot of that lately, particularly with that kind of 'He's so great at everything' bio big_smile They pop in and pop out again.

Yeah mine are at their lowest point since I began here. 30% lower than last year. It's upsetting!

This is quite weird. So apparently, not everyone is doing poorly in terms of earnings.

I think the majority of writers with evergreen articles are feeling the pinch and suffering badly as the decline goes on. Those with more newsy material might experience spikes from time to time which works neatly with the ethos of TAG.

I can see TAG increasingly involved in AI - it's part of their 'playbook' going forward - so I suspect we human writers looking for long-term investment will be cold shouldered.

I hope I'm wrong!! I'd love to hear an announcement from HP/TAG stating  a reversal of current ad and text layout into a more reader-friendly mode but the AI/newsy scenario is building as we speak and write so I don't have great optimism.

The funny thing is that for years HP provided guidance to writers that they should write evergreen articles. They discouraged newsy articles because they were short-lived as far as search demand. My articles are evergreen.

I really miss the community that used to be here when I started over 10 years ago. It really was a Community in which writers could thrive.

One thing I don’t understand is why they don’t allow commenting on articles anymore?  That was a good way to drive traffic to certain articles that got a lot of comments and also get some good feedback. I guess it’s a lot of administrative work on their end to police the comments.

The new format websites for some technical reason aren't designed to be able to have comments integrated into them as they are newly added by readers, except for around 4 or 5 of the network sites. (There's probably a list somewhere) Any comments you see were  added during migration from the old to new format sites. The sites that have a comment facility added to them don't show comments on the site itself, but on an auxiliary site called Rojo. Have a look articles on Delishably.com and you'll see what I mean.

My CPM (PetHelpful) is off about 2 George Washingtons from a week ago, So I am not experiencing this skyrocketing of earnings. I guess it depends on your niche site.

This is a holiday week in the USA.  Lots of folks head to the beach with their families, so I would expect Owlcation to be off for a week or two right now. Pethelpful as well, as their pets are in boarding facilities and no one is getting new pets until after the back-to-school frenzy.

I can see how that might affect traffic, but do you think it would also hammer CPM?

        1. eugbug profile image96
eugbugposted 10 months agoin reply to this

We're into Q3, so CPM generally falls about 30% or more at the start of a quarter.

          1. eugbug profile image96
eugbugposted 10 months agoin reply to this

CPM is only 60% of what it was previous years though. So either Hubpages is paying us less or advertisers aren't paying as much for ad placement. It could also be due to less views on lucrative articles.

greenmindposted 10 months agoin reply to this

Right this is not a traffic issue – my traffic is actually higher than it's ever been. CPM is at the mercy of all kinds of economic factors, so for me it's hard to say what's causing this. I just wanted to know if it's just me, because then maybe it's something I can fix...

              1. eugbug profile image96
eugbugposted 9 months agoin reply to this

CPM is still falling anyway this month and hasn't bottomed out yet.

                1. Rock_nj profile image90
Rock_njposted 9 months agoin reply to this

I remember CPM rose nicely after The Arena Group (TAG) took over. They had some different ideas about getting CPM higher than the previous owners. CPM does seem to vary depending on the time of the year. The holiday shopping season is the best time because ads are at a premium.

One thing that will (and might already be) affect CPM is if an economic recession occurs. Advertisers usually pull back from spending money on ads during down times.

Agree about economic downturns and CPM. But the economy isn't in crisis, and my CPMs are still down 30% year-over-year.

When was TurboFuture created? What other new sites have been launched in the last year?

My articles started getting published on Turbofurture in February 2019. I haven't been tracking the new sites too much but Crime Wire is the newest in the last year from my understanding.

It actually began even earlier than stated above. According to SEM Rush stats, it was May 2016 when the niche was launched.
