If I totally rewrite articles to make them fresh (updating and improving hasn't worked), what approach should I use?

The response will hopefully be enlightening to this question. I've done everything that Hubpages have advised to do in their weekly updates they mail out, plus editors have been over my main articles - and still they're going off a cliff.
Contributors plus Google's voice couldn't have been clearer to Maven, that is, cut your advertising back or you're be heavily penalised, but Mavin have just blocked their ears.

Since maven took over hubpages, content writers here have been having one issue after another.                                       If an article edited and updated couldn't make headway, what else can it do? Is not writers contents just the a media board for advertising?

The old adage is, "Go back to the drawing board". I hope to learn from this OP thread. I just did two complete rewrites on existing articles. I mean to the extent that I deleted all capsules in those two articles. Then input all new content, images, callouts, and so forth.

The first thing I noticed is they did not go through the QAP process, were featured, and instantly returned to Discover where they were to begin with. In other words, I am left wondering if the editors will review them for a niche site or do I have to submit them. Also, wondering if the Google gods will reassess them for ranking.

What did you learn from your experiments?

From this point, I will be writing new articles applying what I have learned here in these forums over the past years.

I will be interested to see how your rewrites turn out. I think it is basically a waste of time to rewrite articles unless they've been taken out of publication by HP. I've rewritten a couple that have flubbed, and they have been put back into circulation, but that was a while back. I haven't written anything new lately because personal problems in our family have kept me busy.

Thanks for sharing your experience with rewrites. I hope your situation improves for being able to write, if you want to pursue it. I say that because since 2017 I have not written an informational article, though I have poetry now and then.

Since 2017 I have taken an online composition class through my community college. I learned! I also have been journaling and writing essays to practice learned skills. Grammarly has been assisting me too.

So, I went back to see which of my articles had the highest views and were featured. One was in draft form and one was on Discover.

I completely rewrote those two including titles. I mean I deleted all of the old capsules and started over. The new titles and the old URLs each had three common keywords. When I published them this last week they immediately were featured and both are now on Discover. I don't think they went through the QAP process again at all.

My first goal is to get them on a niche site. Then monitor their rate of success for views. I will be happy if they get on a niche site as that would mean the newly learned skills paid off.

In addition, I wrote a new article. It made it to LetterPile in the Personal Essay category. Hooray!
