Just ran across this.  Think it references the hubbers posting here?

    WELCOME TO THE PSYCHIATRIC HOTLINE:

Hello, welcome to the Psychiatric Hotline.

If you are obsessive-compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly.

If you are co-dependent, please ask someone to press 2.

If you have multiple personalities, please press 3, 4, 5, and 6.

If you are paranoid-delusional, we know who you are and what you want, so just stay on the line until we can trace the call.

If you are schizophrenic, listen carefully and a little voice will tell you which number to press.

If you are maniac-depressive, it doesn't matter which number you press, no one will answer.

I think refired beans and rice for supper.

    1. profile image0
RUTHIE17posted 17 years agoin reply to this

Is that the Mexican style refried beans?  Or did you really mean "refired"?  And if that's what you meant--what is it?

      1. profile image0
RUTHIE17posted 17 years agoin reply to this

I fixed a whole bag of pinto beans last week, food processed them, "refried" them and put most in the freezer for using later.  Doing homemade lets me adjust the spices to our liking and I can cut the fat down almost to nothing.

We have refried/refired beans in Canada, Bob?  I've never seen them in the stores.

On second thought, it can't be for anyone here.

If you're crazy than you think you're sane and if you're sane you know you're not crazy, just questioning your sanity once in a while--so we're all OK!  Right?

    Right?

Shirley Andersonposted 17 years agoin reply to this

I've never tried them, though I saw them when I was in Mexico and they stock them in the grocery stores in Arizona.  Guess I should give them a go sometime.  I'll look for them.  Do you mix them in with the rice, or serve separately?

RUTHIE17posted 17 years agoin reply to this

Good just heated up as a side-dish for a Mexican dinner.

Also use as foundation for tostados.  Got to have something "sticky" to help hold the rest of the goodies on!

        1. Shirley Anderson profile image74
Shirley Andersonposted 17 years agoin reply to this

Well, my goodness.  This non-cook is gleaning a lot of culinary advice today.  I've never made (or eaten) a tostito in my life.  I thought that was a chip for dipping.

Believe it or not, I grew up in a restaurant.  My grandparents owned it, my parents worked in it, and we all lived upstairs over the diner.  All the other kids at school thought I was lucky, but I didn't look at it that way.  Anyhow, I have EXTREMELY limited cooking skills.  I think it's mainly because it doesn't interest me a ton.

          1. profile image0
RUTHIE17posted 17 years agoin reply to this

No, Hon, not a tostito--a tostado!

A tostado is a flat corn tortilla, fried.  Slather on refried beans, ground beef, shredded cheese, black olives, radishes, shredded lettuce, green onions, salsa and sour cream.  No particular order except for the first three.  I like the sour cream dolloped a little among the layers to help hold everything together.  Then you hold it as flat and even with your mouth as possible, take a bite and hope it doesn't all fall apart.  Great to eat and fun too!  smile

Then there's always the "toco burger".  1 flat corn tortilla (fried), a really thin and flat hambruger, toppings of your choice (about the same as the tostoda, except no radishes) and 1 more fried tortilla.  Eat like you would a burger.  Good eats!! Yummy!!

According to Raystevens.com, he has a new recording out called Hurricane, with a picture of him on the front cover saying, "Watch out for the flying pigs!" So apparently he is still alive and kicking, and more importantly, recording.
