I had a really attractive female send me a message once, and so I shot back and we talked for a little bit. She gave me her name and I looked her up and found a myspace and everything, so I know she was legitimate. She randomly stopped talking to me though after a while.
Yes, I've received emails similar to those. The purpose it is done is so as to receive your primary email address. It's just a ruse, so they can SPAM you whenever they choose to. Report as SPAM and delete.
HubPages uses a forward messaging system, so people can keep their emails hidden from spammers.
However I have not had this happen do not reply!!! I repeat DO NOT REPLY..
After you reply is when they are able to gain access to your personal email account, then they can sell it off to advertisers who will spam the crap out of you. I only know this having spoke via email to many other high profile writers on here. When you get the message from HP, it warns you that replying will give away your personal email address.
*Edit* Read the message if it seems like a legit message feel free to reply. Someone who just wants to get to know you, or talk is just going to sell your email off as they build up their database.
When I had only been on here a couple of weeks I answered one of those emails and didn't think to check until after to see how long the other had been on hubpages and how many hubs they had published. Ended up with a whole bunch of spam in my email account. Won't do that again.
Welcome to HubPages, most are legit and extremely helpful - but those who are have established a reputation and have a good track record.
