I received an e-mail from someone who has only been with the site for a matter of hours.  He/she want's my e-mail address to get to know me better?  Has anyone else experienced this?  What do I do?

I had a really attractive female send me a message once, and so I shot back and we talked for a little bit.  She gave me her name and I looked her up and found a myspace and everything, so I know she was legitimate.  She randomly stopped talking to me though after a while.

Sounds odd.  Why would she just stop talking to you?  Probably for the better though.

Well she was "interested" in me but I told her that I'm in a committed relationship and she talked to me some more for a week and then just stopped so I guess she wasn't looking for friendship.

I also have received a few of these kinds of email.  I sent an email to Hubpages staff and reported them, saying I felt uncomfortable with their contact.

    4. Cagsil profile image70
Cagsilposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Yes, I've received emails similar to those. The purpose it is done is so as to receive your primary email address. It's just a ruse, so they can SPAM you whenever they choose to. Report as SPAM and delete. smile

HubPages uses a forward messaging system, so people can keep their emails hidden from spammers. smile

Never reply to them. Felt all these are fake (mostly thou)...

Friend don't give him email address first of know him well .say him that you need time to trust him and know then give the address

However I have not had this happen do not reply!!!
      I repeat DO NOT REPLY..

After you reply is when they are able to gain access to your personal email account, then they can sell it off to advertisers who will spam the crap out of you. I only know this having spoke via email to many other high profile writers on here.
When you get the message from HP, it warns you that replying will give away your personal email address.

      *Edit*
Read the message if it seems like a legit message feel free to reply. Someone who just wants to get to know you, or talk is just going to sell your email off as they build up their database.

Sounds like Phishing to me. If you are interested in helping someone profit from selling your confirmed contact information then have at it.

Creditors, Telemarketers and Spammers will be contacting you very soon.

Anything other than just deleting is probably not a good idea.

That happened to me just recently. I deleted it, although you can report it as spam or abuse.

I wish I was as cool as you.  I've tried learning the dance moves but I just can't do it.  I doubt that even Michael Jackson could've pulled off your moves. lol

When I had only been on here a couple of weeks I answered one of those emails and didn't think to check until after to see how long the other had been on hubpages and how many hubs they had published.  Ended up with a whole bunch of spam in my email account.  Won't do that again.

Welcome to HubPages, most are legit and extremely helpful - but those who are have established a reputation and have a good track record.

I get these often, k@ri too.

This would be known as "phishing," and most likely it's not with anything but poor intentions.

But, can't blame them...they're just trying to co-exist and gain as much as possible with the least amount of work.

Seems like more work to me, though..

Don't do it!!  Don't answer it == I made that fatal mistake in the beginning and your inbox will be spammed to death!!

(unless you happen to like spam -- and I'm not referring to the tinned meat kind either).

As long as you don't answer, they will not have your personal email. I don't answer, and they slide out of my inbox.  smile

Ernest, I'm blushing! Wow - and I thought I didn't have a single blush left in me!

I think you're beautiful, too! I've never told you this, but one day I was on the forums and a friend was looking over my shoulder. She saw your ppic and said, "Who is that? He's hot!"

One of the things I find so attractive in you (other than your physical good looks) is that you are so devoted to your grandkids. A man who loves children so much has to be special!
