Is it okay to write hubs about other country's treasure spots?
Vacation or "out of town" is week 4. Maybe there is some leeway for places we used to live. I think the key is to provide good, accurate, first hand info. Just my thooughts.
You can certainly write about places you used to live during Weeks 1-3, but they're more about shops, restaurants, and attractions that one would utilize on a day-to-day basis.
Week 4 is all about special stuff that people would more be interested in doing on a vacation, and since most of the things people encounter abroad ARE these vacation-style things, it makes sense to be writing about such places when discussing vacation destinations
Thanks for the info, SimoneSmith! I really appreciate it.
Hmmm.... No "edit" option this afternoon?! I couldn't fix my "thooughts".
It's time to announce our weekend winners!
For Day 10 of the contest akirchner won the Treasure of the Day prize for her hub on the Best Aquatic Fitness Centers in Central Oregon (she's on a roll!)
and cornwall_UK won the Daily Doubloon Drawing for a hub on the Fitness Suite in Pentewan Sands Holiday Park.
Picking a winner was even harder for Day 11 of the contest than usual! After much deliberation, we dub rmcrayne the Treasure of the Day winner for her hub on Hill Country Shopping in Wimberley Texas, which contains a whopping SIXTY NINE ORIGINAL PHOTOS!! fooduciary won the Daily Doubloon Drawing for his hub on The Best Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in Utah.
It was REEEALLY hard for us to pick winners from the weekend entries on BOTH days. People are really stepping it up- easy to follow formatting, original photos, useful content, insider tips... you're killing us- but THAT BE WHAT PIRATES DO BEST!
Keep an eye out for Day 12's winners this afternoon, and good luck swashbucklin' with the other fierce entries out there!
Thanks so much for the pick and everyone is doing a super job!
Congrats cornwall_UK, rmcrayne and fooduciary!
When this is all over we need to go back through and review all the hubs and congratulate everyone on a job well done as I've seen some awesome ones.
Hahaa, seriously! It's amazing how many good hubs are being published as entries for this contest every day!
I sure fall behind on me readin' with so much writin' goin' on! Other than that, what's not to love about contests!!
Shiver me timbers! Monday be a busy day for HubPages Marks the Spot! A mere four hours after we had yet winners for Days 10 and 11 of the contest, we be bringin' you the winners fer day 12!
Treasure of the Day: Road Trip Amy for her hub on Eating & Shopping in Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market
Daily Doubloon Drawing: sagebrush_mama for her hub on Glitter City Sweets of Las Vegas, Nevada
I tip me hat to ye both!
Yo ho, yo ho, a hubber's life for me!
We publish, use twitter, and Facebook too, write UP, me hearties yo ho!
We also give prizes, and that's why I post, write UP, me hearties yo ho!
Yo ho, yo ho, a hubber's life for me!
Les Trois Chenes won this day's Treasure of the Day prize for an impressive guide on Where to buy Limoges Porcelain in Limosin, France. Ye should really give it a look- a real 'beaut of a hub, she is!
Also, stephhicks' hub on Westside Shorty's Dare Care and Preschool won the Daily Doulboon Drawing - that, too, is a 'beaut of a hub, and offers some mighty useful information for the landlubbers seekin' to unload their scurvy dogs while they be out a-pillagin'!
Seriously though- these are both great hubs, and there were many other impressive pieces today as well! Congrats!
Congratulations and I love the song!
There's so much happening, I cannot keep up any more! LOL. High gear, all pirates!
Im confused how come Tuesdays winner has not been anounced yet? And if I submitted a hub before 2 oclock pm cental time today doesnt that fall under the Tuesdays contest or is it still the Mondays? Just wonderin.
I believe Tuesday's winners will be announced Wednesday sometime after 3 p.m. eastern time which would be 2 p.m. central. the hub you submitted on Tuesday before 2 would fall under Monday's entries. hope this helps.
Thanks rebekahELLE, this is indeed the case! Entries for September 14th, which extends, as a contest day, to today at noon, are judged after 12:00pm September 15th. Winners are announced around 4:00pm (PT).
If you submit a hub by noon (PT) today, you'll know whether or not you won by 4:00pm! If you submit a hub after noon, you'll know whether or not you won by 4:00pm the following day.
Keep in mind though, that today, after 12:00pm PT, we are going into Week 3 of the contest, which has a different theme: local highlights and attractions: AND a new tag: hmtswk3.
Do keep those things in mind!
Just found out by pure accident and coincidence, on a charity website of all things, that this coming Sunday (19th) is, "International Talk Like a Pirate Day!" Google it if you don't believe me!
Wonder if this may give a Google boost to the contest and thus any Hubs???
Whaaa??? International Talk Like a Pirate Day?? In September???
Coincidence...?
Hehee.
Hum... maybe it'll make a difference; maybe not... we'll see!! But hey- WE NOT BE NEEDIN' A SPECIAL DAY TO TALK LIKE A BUCCANEER. FOR HUBPAGES MARKS THE SPOT, EVERY DAY BE TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!
YARHARHARHARHARHARHAR!
P.S. Loved the charity shops hub!
Ohhh, no!!! - I hope I haven't spoiled a surprise. I was trying to be helpful!
Sorry and thanks, Simone.
I have been trying to stay away from the Captain's Rum to avoid walking the plank again but given that I am (seriously!) offline and offshore this Saturday and Sunday, I can see me getting wet again if I've inadvertently spoiled a surprise...
Am I missing something or just plain stupid. Doh. I have created three hubs for the contest this week but none are showing. ??
Hi ethel smith!
All of your entries have been valid and come through correctly except for one- you have "Kingston-upon-Hull: St Stephen's Shopping Centre" tagged as a Week 2 entry, however as of noon PT (about three hours ago now), we have moved into Week 3 of the contest.
This means tags of participating hubs of this period need to be hmtswk3, and the theme is "local highlights & attractions"
Hope that helps!
Hey y'all! Just a heads up that voting is now open on the Week 2 Pirate's Choice Award candidates!
Go to the contest page and VOTE!!
http://hubpages.com/topics/travel-and-places/5482
You've got until 12 (PT) on Friday. Happy voting!!
More winners for ye! They be the last of week 2 of HubPages Marks the Spot!
rmcrayne won the Daily Doubloon Drawing today for her hub on shops in Gruene, Texas and Living In Paris' hub on Paris Food Shops is the Treasure of the Day!
Now that week 3 be upon us, I be hopin' ye are ready to share your local sights and attractions! We now be halfway through the contest, but there's loot a-plenty for those willing to swashbuckle up more treasurehubs!!
I have entered my Hub http://hubpages.com/t/193b8c "The Little Rock Nine - "Testament" at the State Capitol"
Woooo Hooooo! I mean Arrrrrrr! Me whole ship is celebratin' and toasting me booty.
I'm just a little confused. Local highlights...week 3...can that be highlights about places we have visited which would be local to that area? Or does it mean we are limited to writing about places where we live? I just published a good hub today about an attraction but it is in a different State. Should I have waited until week 4 to publish it? Please advise...because I have 3 more already completed hubs but unpublished which are in different areas to where I live. Thanks!
The idea is that we'll all write about the local highlights and attractions in our hometowns, such as nice parks, places for picnics, art galleries, historical buildings, etc...
If you prefer to write about local attractions in another place- like a place where you used to live- that'll work too.
The main gist is that this week is about insider knowledge, so save vacation spots for the final week. But really we're not going to penalize you for writing about local attractions in some place you've visited instead of lived in, so no worries. If it's a local highlight/attraction, it counts!
Thanks Simone. I will no doubt just grasp it as the contest ends lol.
I must have missed the week 2 deadline. Will try harder this week
It should be fun! Writing about local highlights and attractions is pretty easy, so you shouldn't have to work too hard
I'm used to clicking something when I have (previously) joined a HP HubMob. I can't find a 'clicky thing' anywhere.
Being a bit slow, I take it you just hub - and include the keyword or the week?
*wanders off to drum up an idea*
Yep! No clicking required. All you have to do is...
1. Write a hub that conforms with the weekly topic
2. Categorize it somewhere within Travel and Places
3. Give it the weekly tag (we're in week 3, so it's hmtswk3)
And publish!
If you want extra entries in the Daily Doubloon Drawing, check out our Facebook page or twitter feed to see what the daily bonus topic is. If you publish a hub on the daily bonus topic and share its URL on the Twitter (with @HubPagesDotCom and #HubPagesContest) or Facebook page, you get two extra entries.
... So if you're still drumming up an idea, you can just check out the Daily Bonus Topic for inspiration! It's announced at noon (PT) every day and the deadline is at noon the following day.
That pretty much sums it up!
Thankyou Simone, much appreciated
I am beyond the drumming up stage. I think I'm creating a mammoth. Is there some kind of word limit? I'm finding it hard not to wax lyrical. Thing is I'm enjoying writing it. I always do when they're non-commercial and written from experience rather than research
Of course there's no word limit! Goodness gracious, I am so curious now!!!
Erm ... I'm still working on it and so far it's around the 4000 word mark. I did indicate that it was a long one ...
Our Daily Bonus Topic for Day 15 of the contest was local historical buildings, and boy, did we ever get a lot of awesome entries!
One of them was M. Everest, who won the Daily Doubloon Drawing today for her hub on the Historic Places in Chico, California. As it happens, Chico has quite a few mansions and museums!
Whidbeywriter's hub on the best parks for picnics and camping on Whidbey Island won the Treasure of the Day. It's extensive!
We had a particularly tough time picking a Treasure of the Day today. YE BE KILLIN' US WITH THESE TREASURE-MAP-HUB-MASTERPIECES!!!
Would've just edited my previous post but couldn't. Anyway it's done. Just wanted to say every picture in it would've been mine had I still got my previous laptop. I've simply dozens that I've taken in the last couple of years - and none on this one. Shame!
Be it just me, or ARRR the contest entries getting better and better? We've got two very impressive winners for ye today- not only for Day 16 of HubPages Marks the Spot, but also for Week 2 of the contest!
Day 16 Winners:
Treasure of the Day: frogdropping for a sizable hub on the Five Best Lisbon Tourist Attractions
Daily Doubloon Drawing: stephhicks68 for Tour the Deschutes River Trail in Bend, Oregon, which is full of gorgeous photos!
Winners for Week 1:
Pirate's Choice Winner: akirchner for her hub on the Best Aquatic Fitness Centers in Central Oregon
Best TreasureHub: Les Trois Chenesfor a hub on Where to buy Limoges Porcelain in Limousin, France
Congrats to ye all! We be very impressed with your swashbucklin' skills, me hearties. Never before have we seen so many amazing contest entries every day for a contest such as this!
Enjoy the weekend too, ye scurvy dogs. Sunday be, after all, International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Thanks so much everyone! Congrats Stephanie on your wonderful Deschutes River Trail hub today, too! Awesome...
Congrats as well to frogdropping and Les Trois Chenes. I agree that all the hubs have been super!
Congratulations to all the winners! Some beautiful hubs on great places! The only problem is now I have the traveling bug! If I win the lottery anytime soon, I know what I have to do, travel, travel, travel! Great job to everyone!
Hi ,
I'm new to this contest ,but already published hubmob hubs , by answering Princessa's request
Prominent Art Galleries In Cochin
http://hubpages.com/hub/Prominent-Art-G … -In-Cochin
Amusement Parks In Kerala
http://hubpages.com/hub/Local-Highlight … -In-Kerala
But Is it eligible for mark the spot contest ?
What is to be noted when publishing the contest hub in hubmob weekly topic .
I'm added the tag and map ,else thing else there ?
Yep! Both count, as all they need is
1. At least one map with at least one marker
2. To be categorized under Travel & Places
3. To have the weekly tag
4. To be about the week's topic
Your participation in the HubMob is just icing on the cake!
Is anyone else having technical difficulties with the Map Capsule on their Hubs? I tried to use this feature yesterday, the capsule appeared but I could not insert any info and the rest of my hub froze up. I waited for several minutes but had to end up deleting the entire hub. I made two attempts. On the third I just left the Map Capsule out and had no problems.
I'm trying to get a piece in for this weeks contest but the rules state the hub must include a Map Capsule.
Any ideas, suggestions on why this is happening and how it can be fixed?
Your help is greatly appreciated,
THX
Alternative Prime
I experienced the same problem but I just refreshed the page and typed the address again. I don't know if it would also work for you, but for me, it did.
We have heard of a couple of people having trouble here and there, but haven't been able to replicate any bugs at HQ, so most likely, internet is being wonky or things are just getting choked up.
Sometimes switching browsers helps, and definitely try refreshing the page as Michael Jay has done as well.
If you still have trouble, let us know what sort of browser you're using and include a screenshot if possible- we'll try to get to the bottom of it!
Yep, my browser freezes too, I've had several hassles with it. To solve it I open another window, save the hub as unpublished, then delete my browser cache, close the browser, restart, sign back in then retry and it seems to work again, once, before I have to repeat. I use Firefox, 3.6.10.
Sorry for the clunkiness!
Hmmm.. do you find that your browser freezes when you are actively using google maps as well? And do you have multiple windows open when you edit hubs?
No worries Simone. Yes that's when the page freezes, I can set up the map capsule successfully only once, when I try it again, it freezes. No, I don't have multiple windows open at the time, but do so after, so I can save the hub and log out, then come back and retry the map capsule again. It's no big deal, I'm not overly concerned with it, I think it's more of a problem on my end. Thanks Simone.
I have a question about the voting for the treasure of the week. I have a friend who had a very good hub that was up for the treasure of the week, he was very thrilled that he was nominated and everyone really thought he had a chance at winning, now here is my question. Is it allowed for someone on hubpages to write an email to everyone on their fan list to get them to vote for whoever is up for the prize? I mean is it even ethical and allowed and the reason I ask is that someone on hubpages last week emailed everyone on their fan list and asked if they would please vote for so and so and apparently they did whether they liked the hub or not because this person won. Now I see this as unethical and I think that people should win on their own merit and not because someone who is popular on hubpages tells them so. It isnt fair to everyone and maybe my friend wouldnt have won anyway but it seems like he would have had a better shot had this not happened. He worked really hard on his hub and he even got the email to vote for someone else and he was floored because he was in the contest too. Just wondering? Thanks anyone who can answer this for me!
Hi ValerieH!
It was a very close vote this week (neck and neck with several of the candidates, really!) and from the poll results, it looks like all the candidates got a lot of support.
If we were to find very disproportionate votes or hear of anyone being strong-armed into voting for a particular candidate, we may need to take more action, but we don't exactly have the right at HP to control who sends emails to whom.
Sometimes popular votes and polls like this can veer in the direction of popularity contests- it can be inevitable, but for this reason, we have the Best TreasureHub Prize in addition to the Pirate's Choice Prize.
The Best TreasureHub is selected by our five judges, who are not associated with HubPages and have no loyalties to the hubbers they're judging.
We offer both weekly prizes to allow both the community to pick a favorite hub, and for more objective judges to have their say. For the most part, this seems to be a balanced approach, though if you have any other suggestions, we are happy to hear them!
Hope I've answered this alright ^_^
Happy Monday to the lot of ye!
We have the weekend winners:
Winners for Day 17:
Treasure of the Day: stephhicks68 for her hub on great spots along the Casade Lakes Highway
Daily Doubloon Drawing: cornwall_UK for Play Skittles in Cornwall
Winners for Day 18:
Treasure of the Day: IzzyM for her hub on Glasgow Cathedral in Scotland
Daily Doubloon Drawing: soni2006 for Best Local Doll Art Spot in New Delhi - Colorful Doll Museum in Delhi
It was quite the weekend of hubs, me hearties! I hope ye all had a good respite!
WOW! All these places to see. Before the Internet, we barely knew what we were missing - May I live 300 years to see it all, please? Congratulations to winners!
Mondays sure be eventful days- we be workin' harder than a bunch of scurvy dogs on a poop deck full of electric eels! We do have yer winners for ye though:
Gordon Hamilton won the Daily Doubloon Drawing today for his hub on the Historic Sites and Museums on The Royal Mile, Edinburgh and melbel's hub on the Top 8 Chicago Museums is the Treasure of the Day!
Congrats, me hearties!
Congratulations to both! I hope to get to Edinburgh one day, but willsurely see the musuem in melbel's hub when I go to Chicago. All great.
Patty, I am sure you would have a wonderful time. I have lived in many places throughout the UK and Europe - even as a native Westerner in Scotland, however, Edinburgh is so special. I have lived in two extremely varied and different parts of the city and love it very much. It is definitely my spiritual if not my natural home.
I would also love to visit the US, however, and Chicago is of course a city of huge renown and great appeal. I would love to have the chance to visit your country and all your many attractions.
I love this contest and the access it gives us to potentially otherwise unobtainable destinations around the world.
Thanks Hub Pages!!
Gordon
Another win! Congratulations Gordon, and Edinburgh is indeed a wonderful city.
In fact it was your other winning Hub, the one on where to go for a beer in Munich, that inspired me to give this contest a go.
I'm glad you liked it! I really appreciate the kind words! Working on more hubs for this week's contests.
Thanks very much Simone! I think the link goes to my wrong Edinburgh Hub - it doesn't make any difference to me but thought I would let you know just in case...
Gordon
To everyone who's been working so hard on these hubs congratulations, they are all good. So much reading to do, not enough time!!! Oh dear!
I'm working hard on week 4 - Simone I'll have to make sure I publish them at the correct time, we're ahead of you guys down here in Oz.
BTW, thanks for a very challenging competition.
Ooooh- we look forward to reading your week 4 entries!!!
If you're unsure about times, you can always check out the current local time in SF: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=224
That's what we're going by!
We almost be done with Week 3 of HubPages Marks the Spot, so if ye want to share more about yer local attractions and sights, ye had better do so handsomely!
While I be runnin' me mouth off, I might as well tell ye who won for Day 20 of our high-seas contest!
The Treasure of the Day prize goes to WordCustard for a hub on the best beaches in Scotland from Edinburgh to St Andrews and the Daily Doubloon Drawing winnings be sailin off with In The Doghouse for The Temecula Valley Rod Run. Sporting!
I hope ye spend the loot wisely, maties!
I guess today was my lucky day! Thanks!
I was over the moon to win this, thank you so much Simone and everyone behind this contest. What a wonderful surprise to wake up to.
Congrats to In the Doghouse too!
Coingratulations WordCustard! Fun, isn't it?
Is there an rss feed created for the participants of this contest?
I also would like to know if I am supposed to post my hub link when I publish my hub, the main one for the contest not the daily drawing hub?
I am sorry but I am a little dense at times.
You're not being dense in the least- this contest has a lot of details!
While we don't currently have an RSS feed of contest entrants set up, there is one for HubMob participants, so check out the weekly HubMob threads for more info on that (they correspond to the contest weeks).
As for entries not related to the day's daily drawing topic- there is no need to post the link. So long as you're within the weekly topic, include a map or maps with a pinned marker (or pinned markers), are categorized somewhere under Travel and Places, and include the weekly tag, you're good!
Hope that helps!
Lol, I have been tearing my hair out, and there isn't much left. I did a hub for the daily bonus, and hit publish, and it wasn't all there.
There were 2 or 3 things that were gone. I hit edit, and 2 or 3 of the capsules were just flat out gone... Tried reloading in another browser, and somehow one of the missing capsules showed, so I cut and pasted from it, and redid the other two...
Sounds painful! Looks like it worked out in the end though- your Attractions in and Around Topeka Kansas hub looks great!!
Here is my entry for the Travel and Places Contest
http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Wisconsin-Spa-Resort
Wish me luck!
Kindest Regards, GmaGoldie
PS Heads up - Had problems with the RSS feed - it would work and then it would break - hope it still working - just triple checked it.
Here is my hub for the last week of the contest:
When I put the RSS feed in - it said there was no feed yet - shouldn't mine show up?:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Honeymoon-Getaways-in-Hawaii
Here's the link to my first article for the last week, enjoy ...
http://hubpages.com/hub/Amalfi-Coast-It … our-Budget
The only problem with writing hubs on travel is now I really want to travel again. Our Aussie $ is so high at the moment it is even better value for us to travel OS, just wish I had the time!!
Just imagine how it feels to read all the entries!!
Hmmm... let's say we become bankrobbers, eh? Get some quick cash and travel, eh??? MUWAHAHAA!!
So happy to have found a photographic file tonight that I had thought was gone forever, I am going to share this tip with everyone! It can be used in relation to the contest and beyond.
I decided to look through the old photographic files on my PC earlier tonight for ideas for the Hub Pages contest. I started opening every one and found a complete file that I thought I had accidentally at some point deleted forever. I must have accidentally dragged it and deposited it inside another file the last time I opened it.
The particular photos are not relevant to the contest but that is not the point. Browsing your old files could therefore uncover truly hidden gems, unlock memories and provide material for an award winning Hub.
Good luck all!
How cool! Like a buried treasure! Hehee >_<
I hope you've inspired some others to do some digging.
The final winners off week 4 are official: WannaB Writer won the Treasure of the Day for her hub on short hikes in North San Luis Obispo (it has some GREAT original photo and video content, as well as helpful tips and pointers), and
Sweetsusieg won the Daily Doubloon Drawing for Small Town America - Hastings Michigan
Don't forget to vote for your this week's Pirate's Choice winner by visiting the contest page. You've got until Friday at noon PT!
I'm not sure how I won or even why, I'm just glad I did!! Now I can stick my tongue out at my hubby when he says 'writing don't pay'... HA! yep, it does! LOL Thanks guys for having this contest so that I could enter!
Ooh, ooh! Vote for mine! It's the Top 8 Museums in Chicago one.
My bad - I just received an email about the contest that reminded me that I never publicly thanked those that chose my one entry as a Treasure of The Day winner mid-way through the week.
I was chuffed to bits, delighted and ever so flattered to boot. I came over all British ... rather pleased but ever so reserved about it
Due to the fact that I won, I duly promise to send Jason Menayan a proper english cuppa (a teabag or two), because he works so hard and always answer my random, though rare, cries for Hubpage type help. And Tom Schirmer a box of nothing - which is bound to be a heavenly gift indeed.
Thankyou everyone. And good luck to all that have entered too. It's a great contest
My hometown and nearby sites you gotta see!!

Check out my latest entry for week four:

Beautiful Botanical Garden on our Island of Oahu

Here's my second hub for the competition, week 4, for anyone who enjoys the countryside...
http://hubpages.com/hub/Enjoy-a-True-Tu … l-Paradise
Can't believe we are in the last week! Where has the time gone? I think in front of my computer, typing in the car, or driving around (like Steph and I'm sure a lot of other people) taking pictures. I am now famous I think in Bend for the 'drive by shooting' of a different kind!
Had some trouble with my photos last night - not sure why on the 'see all photos' part some are coming out with poor resolution and I can't seem to fix that - but when you click on the photo in the hub itself it looks fine? I think I'm going a bit batty!
Also - I noticed folks posting their hubs on this forum - were we supposed to do that or just on facebook? I think I've gone over the hill into the old lady zone where brains go to die but will try and get it right for the last sprint down to the end of the contest!
Congrats to EVERYONE by the way and think the hubs have just been fabulous - only need more time to read and comment!
LOL - Bend, Oregon's resident drive-by shooter!! Hehee!
I wouldn't recommend posting hubs in the forum or on the Facebook page unless it's as a relevant entry for a Daily Bonus Topic wall post- you're not batty!
Thanks, Simone and figured out how to fix my pictures - I think I'll reserve an opinion on the batty until October!
I actually was a little scared a couple of times that someone was going to turn in our license number and we would be trailed by police cars all the way home only to be asked what I was doing photographing things like a madwoman! I had people ducking and jumping out of the way all the time and I'd very calmly yell out 'I'm not taking your picture - it's the sign or thing behind you'. Bob is a very good sport is all I can say!
I'm glad! I hope it wasn't anything too complicated.
Hahaa- and wow! That's some photographic dedication! Well, it's for the greater good, right? Bend, Oregon is now thoroughly covered!
My hub ewntry for contest

Gangway for the final week of HubPages Marks the Spot!
Our first day out to sea sure was a fierce one! The competition got rougher than a drunken buccaneer deprived o' his rum, and let me tell you, we had ourselves a real tough time picking the day's winner.
In the end, the Treasure of the Day prize goes to Gordon Hamilton for his informative but concise hub on the top vistor attractions in Central London. It's easy to read but nevertheless packed with original photos, fun facts, helpful links, a poll, and even a quiz.
The day's Daily Doubloon Drawing winner also won for a real doozy of a hub- PeggyW's exploration of historical Old Town Wisconsin is packed with original photos, interestin' history, and eye-catchin' videos of a pretty crazy place!
I hope ye read 'em both, maties. They be good- as many of the other treasures of Day 22!
You know I dont know what some of these judges are thinking because I see some of the most beautiful hubs in the contest and yet they dont win but there are some treasures of the day that to me are just not worthy. Im not trying to be nasty but perhaps they are having a little too much rum arrrghhh!!!!
Well, you know we like to booze up before we do the judging- y'know... to get in character
But seriously, I completely understand what you mean, and we have a tough time picking winners, too. It ultimately comes down to how well each entry meets our judging criteria - multiple locations profiled, photos, preferably original ones, search friendly topics and titles, etc... as well as how well that hub meets the weekly topic (e.g. does it offer a good guide to a vacation destination, or is it just a beautiful story?)
This allows us to make objective choices, which is good, because believe me, were this a subjective judging contest, we'd have to shoot each other before making final decisions!
Thanks very much, SImone. I enjoyed writing this Hub and effectively revisiting London. Making up the questions for the quiz was particularly enjoyable.
Thanks for the kudos on Old Town Wisconsin. Was fun to remember while creating the hub. I'm also loving reading other people's travel adventures! Great contest!!!
For the Adventure Tourism category, I had to post my river rafting adventure - my only worry is that it is probably my 'real voice' - my humorous take on the whole thing. I hope that doesn't disqualify the hub - but oh well. It was an adventure and I'm proud that I made it through....sadly I have 2 more I could publish and will see if I can possibly get them in by noon tomorrow. All my 'adventures' seem to turn into comedic farces but then that's just me/my voice I think!
Hehee- comedic adventures are fun, too, and contest entries with personal experiences are great so long as they work to offer a good description of a place XD
I myself am quite partial to rafting- I've been trained as a river guide and both my sister and father spent several summers guiding on the American River. It's the best!
Happy Friday, maties! Ah, and it be a happy Friday indeed now that we be announcin' the winners for FOUR different prizes!
Winners for Day 24:
Treasure of the Day: aperturering for his hub on Assateague Island (a VERY close call again, with much discussion! It all came down to the useful background, very easy-to-follow tips, stellar original photos, and helpful links XD)
Daily Doubloon Drawing: stephhicks68 for Hiking Hawaii's Most Active Volcano: Kilauea (a most thrilling volcano tour - photos, fun facts, history, travel tips, and video included!)
Winners for Week 3:
Pirate's Choice Winner: stephhicks68 for her hub on the Cascade Lakes Highway
Best TreasureHub: WannaB Writerfor her hub on great short hikes in North San Luis Obispo
Looks like stephhicks68 is on a roll today! Good for ye, bonnie lass! And I wish to congratulate the other winners, too- true HubTreasure Mappers the lot of ye are!
We won't be announcing the Day 23 and 24 prize winners until Monday so happy hubbing over the weekend!
