This should be an easy question to answer for those who have done their homework.
It provides many, but the operative word is "greatest."
The answer may be educational to many, to others common knowledge.

The effects of gravity due to the moon being 400 times closer then the earth then the sun. However, the cycles of the moon represent the passive forces of things and are the feminine. smile

When the Lady's moon is new, kiss your hand to her times two
When the moon rides at her peak, then ye heart's desire seek

Luv: I know, I play too far out in "left" field to understand what it means to the rest of you. All that is really important is that what it means to you satifies you...:-)

Skimming off most of the atmosphere.  Without it we would probably be another Venus.

While it produces many effects necessary to life as we know it, that is probably the greatest.

Wilderness...without the moon, "LIFE" itself as we know it would not exist. It has been and still is why we exist.

That was my point.  Without the moon, any life on earth would be unrecognizable to us.  If there was any.

The greatest "gift" is the moon illusion. An optical illusion that tricks your brain into thinking it's really big.

You are undoubtedly correct.  It is actually a black hole orbiting the earth.  Starlight is bent around it by gravity, giving the illusion of size, but it is actually infinitesimally small.  It is seldom seen in the daytime as most starts are nocturnal, only coming out at night, and thus it is far to small to be seen in the daytime without starlight.
