RJ: What children if mankind continues on this path to his own destruction?
That would be a "progressive" if it were possible and if there were a peaceful future promised.
Otherwise, it would be pure "idealism."

A future where people are free to be who they want and do what they want as long as they don't hurt anyone else doing it.  This would mean religion without proselytizing or indoctrination, world without borders, money separated from power and the accumulation of excessive 'stuff' pointless.

Poet....but of course. since, tho, man, is by his genetic nature, a highly evolved killer, how could he possibly attain such an idealist future?

What makes you think man is a highly evolved killer ?

Killing is part of all nature in the light of the food chain.  However, organised killing is counter to mans natural instinct. You only have to ask people who have engaged in it to realise this, those who are not sociopathic by nature that is, that we have already deterimined is a mental illness I think ?

There was a time when organised killing had a social function as tribes were driven out of one area and needed to 'get into' a new already inhabited area.  In the modern world this is no longer necessary and so organised killing is just a side effect of greed through commercialisation.  There is considerable research that confirms that all the 'modern' wars are about commodity.

Poet: I respectfully disagree with you.
WE are the earths prime predator. Even today, we research methods to kill more of ourselves without compunction.
There is within immature modern man, a dichotomy of purpose. On one side is lip service to the good of humanity. On the flip side is a powerful genetic drive to kill. We have been involved in both facets of our character since man began to develop a super brain, a couple million years ago.
Why do you think Hawkin said (paraphrase) that we are a greater threat to our existence than anything appearing from the cosmos?
Consciousness has divorced us from the "natural."

No - conciousness, or intelligence, is a natural evolution in itself.

We are not natural born predators and killers, I have been trained in my youth and so I guess I could easily kill you, and probably several of your friends all together. But this is not natural, take a bus ride and look around you at 'most' people, they couldn't kill a mouse if they had to personally put their hands on it.

The "powerful genetic drive to kill" is only an aspect of your own self, you been playing too many shoot-em-up computer games ??  big_smile

Man's natural instinct is to protect his or her own. Which is what you are saying only the other way around.

Poet: Again I agree with you. Consciousness is an evolved anomaly.
We human creatures had not evolved claw and fang. We had to use wile to survive.
We have become so accustomed to using guile in our battles to survive that our genes have equipped us to be able to "kill" in such cunning and deceitful ways that the majority of humanity, like you, is fooled into thinking that we are a compassionate species. We are a social creature. We had to be to survive. There is strength in numbers...and if you add conscious wile to that strength, you can fool anyone anytime and setup the kill.
Killing and procreation are the most powerfull genetic incentives in the human creature. Immaturity and Ignorance are the most deleterious aspects of human existence.
