I have been using Avant Browser because I like the tabbed browsing. But something just occurred to me- does running the google toolbar help improve your hubpages ranking higher?
    Just wonderin.........

Misha is correct. Running the Google Toolbar has no effect on your Google Rankings.

No it doesn't. However, using Alexa toolbar improves your Alexa ratings smile

Are you sure about using Alexa toolbar for improving Alexa ratings?

I tried downloaing Alexa a while back, but my spyware caught it, and now everytime I pull up a new browser or tab, I get a spyware message. It sucks. I have to figure out how toinstall it. I even tried to install it with my spyware programs off, and it still does it when I turn them back on.

Yep, if you are having relatively low traffic website you will see the difference. Alexa counts traffic ONLY from users who have their toolbar installed. When my main site was on initial stages, I got it from several millionth place to something like three hundred thousandth - just by installing tollbar smile

Thanks alot! I just started to use Alexa for couple days and this helps answer some of my questions. Btw, how you get backlink for Alexa and while we at it Google also? (Inlinks for Alexa and backlinks for Google, I guess!) I don't know how but I got plenty of backlinks with Yahoo but not those two.

      1. Misha profile image64
Mishaposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Backlinks are backlinks, no matter how you look at them. Alexa still shows one backlink to my site I believe, Google always hides a lot of backlinks and shows them only when you use their webmaster panel, and Yahoo is considered the most reliable tool to check backlinks.

Yep, this really puzzled me because I saw a lot of backlinks in Yahoo but a few in Google and none in Alexa, that's why I thought maybe each one have their own way. It puzzled me because I also checked one of my competitor site and they all have plenty of backlinks for all three but mine only showed backlinks in Yahoo. Is there any trick to gain more Google backlinks or Alexa?
I've checked all of them using the traditional link: method without really going in the webmaster or other junks.

I don't know the details, but I think Alexa started using panel estimates (the way Quantcast and others do it) to augment their toolbar data some time in the last couple of months.  As a result their numbers should be a bit more reliable now (they were pretty bad before that change).

      edit: here are the details

So, if you have 2, 3 websites, how can it know which one to increase the rating? I haven't used it yet but still curious about it.

      Misha,

I am still puzzled about this. Is this mean that every site that I visited if I use this toolbar will increase in rank? How does it know if my site is abc.com or xyz.com? I guess this must be one of those weird tricks.

      1. Misha profile image64
Mishaposted 16 years agoin reply to this

Yes, every site you visit with Alexa toolbar active will increase its Alexa rating. And no, it does not know which site is yours - but you tend to visit your site pretty often, don't you? smile Remember, we are talking here about sites that hardly get a dozen of visits daily, so a couple of dozens of your own visits make a huge difference.

OK, thanks, I finally got it and have it installed and running it today..... Slow me.... But I do have so much goody that I was hesistated to add more stuff to my computer..... And yes, for my sites it would make a different because I do have a little over a dozen of visits daily.

If anyone is running Firefox as their browser, I would recommend downloading Search Status 1.25 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/321

Search Status will install a Google Toolbar and Alexa Toolbar. The program also has a ton of other freebie SEO tools that I use on a daily basis.

If I put any more toolbars on my laptop, I won't have screen area left.  As it is, I uninstalled the Yahoo bar 2 days ago, I have Google and Stumble left.  However, Alexa doesn't know I'm alive, so I may have to do it whether I like it or not.

      Shirley,

I hate a lot of the top of my screen gone, too. What I do if I want to keep a toolbar is just not view it. You can do this by clicking on the view tab at the top of your browser then click toolbars. When you see the list with all the checks beside the toolbars, just click on the ones you don't want to show and it will hide them. Any time you want to view it, just repeat the process to put it back on the screen. smile

    1. The hub is still there. Yes, I looked. How could I resist. If you're confused, read the comments again.
    2. Using the Google Toolbar just allows Google to collect more information. It does not help the ratings or rankings of your hubs or sites that you visit.
