I really wish I had held the article back but it was sent off before I joined hub pages. I was shocked that it was accepted and they are already asking for more but as far as I know its just out there and belongs to them now.

Unless you specifically assigned rights, anything you write is yours. Letting someone publish it does not automatically take away your rights or even give them rights to republish.
Of course, you may have foolishly clicked some User Agreement without reading. I'd suggest you go find that an readut now if that is what you did.
Here at HP, you retain rights.
I hope they paid you.
