Just curious, has anyone noticed their followers constantly fluctuating. I have remained in the 880-883 range despite the fact I'm constantly receiving new followers. I would love to get to 1000 followers before the year is over, but at this rate I never will.
I know it doesn't mean very much, but 1000 seems like a nice round number.
Yes mine are not just fluctuating, they are dropping while new followers are signing on.
I have a theory, as I don't usually lose followers I believe people are leaving hubpages in numbers I haven't seen before because of the results on their hubs from the Google slap. I hope I'm wrong. It must be hell at HP headquarters!
I have another theory. I'm sure a lot of my followers are people who were spamming HubPages and their following habits were part of that - with HubPages tightening up, they're getting banned.
ya hon, mine has been really weird also
be a good thing to bet on [not promoting gambling of course]
I have lost four or five followers in the last couple of days..Wonder if people are leaving..?
I agree with all the theories, facts and queries. Because I've noticed broken links on my hubs, and when I check out why, I find the hub has been deleted. Earnest, I noticed the same thing with mine, so as you said not fluctuating, just dropping. I hope it can stabilize soon.
Are those 800 followers are your actual readers? Or just imaginary friends? Because mine are the latter. They are just a statistics but they don't read. Sadly, but true. My number is not that high, though, only 52 followers, out of which 2 are readers....
It's going to most likely be a mix of departures and low-quality/spam accounts being shut down by admin.
may we stay on hub pages forever, i love to get my aggression out on you sometimes......... Did you hear my dad just died.
hi Mark i know what agree means, but what do you agree about,
Concur means agree........................
I am not agreeing on anything. You asked what concur meant and I told you - it means "agree."
Crikey.
there are some really dumb people on here, lets cleanse the site.
Well - I can see you are having a bad day. Sorry your dad just died - so feel free to give me as much of a hard time as you want. I am a big boy and make a good punchbag.
I kind of figured that's what was going on too -- whenever I get new followers I like to look at their recent activity to see where they might have found me, and at least half of them have shown nothing in their recent activity except following tons of people. I'm sure these types of accounts are proving a bit short-lived these days . As long as people who are actually reading and enjoying my hubs stick around, life is good.
The number of people following me has always gone a little down and then more up, then a little down, more up.
However, it's not the number of followers that I care about, it's the amount of traffic. While having followers CAN help, I personally only regularly check out content of a few people I am following.
That said, the BEST way to get followers is to create great content -- apparently you have to already have so many followers, so you know the next thing to do: create more content!
Best of luck in your goal!
As for why followers are disappearing, Relache is right on! HubPages has been cleaning house lately getting rid of a TON of spam hubbers. I, personally, have reported a few people as possible spammers -- sometimes I'll report my own followers if they deem as such.
Spammers hurt our community more than they help my follow list. As for right now, your follower list may continue to drop, but don't be alarmed -- if your followers followed you because they enjoyed your content (which is WHY people should follow in the first place) then you will keep most of your followers.
totally agree- i have lost followers but to be honest there are one or two who follow me and when i checked had not written- so maybe they were setting up a spam attack that was foiled?
thanks for those kind words- yes it is a cleansing and not before time, but I think it will have to go very deep
I went hubhopping and it was an education. So many new sites that were just adverts for products and services. There has to be a purge on here, if HP is to be taken seriously as an informative site. (ps My followers number seems to be stuck on 79!)
Well it's 80 now. Welcome to hubpages. You have some interesting hubs, so I followed you so that I can be reminded to come back and do some reading.
With everything that's been going on, and may go on, I've wondered if one day I'll just notice that I have - like - 4 followers: my three kids and my sister. (Oh, wait... They aren't Hubbers. Oh well... )

Does anybody else see the Hubpages Earnings fluctuating?I just signed up a couple weeks ago for the Hubpages Earnings program. While I am happy with the increased earnings, there has been a couple of times when I have seen what I have earned to see later in the day that it has decreased. Can anyone...

Not complaining but I don't understand hub. In an attempt to get involved, I started following a lot of Hubbers. Many of them followed me back and I am seeing a dramatic increase in viewing traffic for my hubs. I guess Hub didn't like this since they took my score from 89 to currently 78 and...

It seems that now I have been more active on the site, HubPages has lowered my scores on some hubs, but also increased my score on others. Anyone know why that is? Thank you, everyone! :-)

How does someone on hubpages get a large following without writing hubs? When I am hub hopping, I have noticed that there are many people with little or no hubs and they have hundreds of followers. I see that some of them are following many people and I understand the reciprocity factor but I don't...

Have you noticed that the high earners on HubPages appear to follow very few writers themselves?Could it be said then, that it is more important to have a following than it is to follow back other writers and Are we spending too much time commenting at the cost of writing new content?
