I am one of the internet searchers who really don't "google" search terms; I usually Yahoo! or Bing them instead. I have been hoping some search engine would come along and step into the confusion that Google has been causing.
Ixquick (StartPage) is not new, but I had never heard of it before today. They focus on privacy, for one thing. They don't record IP addresses, so they don't hound you with results that they think will interest you.
Also - if I understand correctly - they search other search engines, rather than the entire internet.
And then, in the results they give, they award stars to indicate how many other search engines list a specific result as being the best one. It's very cool! Check it out - go to ixquick and plug in the keywords for some of your best and/or some of your poorest Hubs, and see how many stars they show (if any).
Of course, as with any SE results, if no one is looking for the keyword, it doesn't really matter which page your Hub is on. But it's still really interesting!
I didn't see Google either. I did see Yahoo, Statesman, Gigablast, EntireWeb, and Blekko. Those may be the only ones - I'm not sure.
The theory is that it may be easy to fool a search engine with shady SEO techniques, but it would be hard to fool all of them. I'm not sure that I agree with that notion, but I like the fact that they have tried to come up with alternate methods of searching.
