Please explain to me why some Hubbers have more than one account?

I had to go start new accounts after this one got sandboxed.

A hub I wrote yesterday is at #2 in Google today.

It's been a long time since any hubs on this account saw that sort of success.

I know its probably just the boost Google gives to new hubs, but it stopped giving this name any boosts at all.
Good to note that Yahoo and Bing also give new hubs boosts smile

Some have an account for different writing topics and some have different accounts for the forums. Some get banned from the forums, so they create another sock-puppet account to go around the rule!!!

Hubbers who are well known around the site often find they prefer to keep some topics private to avoid having them stolen by less scrupulous measures.

Some hubbers just like to have different personas for different topics - for instance an account with hubs about babies and another account with hubs about medical issues.

That pretty much sums it up.  I have another account where I write how-to hubs, poems, stories of fiction.  Stuff that does not fit in with the hubs of this account. Readers coming to Reality Bytes would be turned off from the subjects on my alt account.  Some times I am in a RB writing mode , some times I like to write freestyle smile

My other account never sees the forums, so why would it even matter?  It all falls under the same payment account.

Another dumb question:  if you create another account, do you keep your author score?  Is it like just starting all over again with another user name, new earnings reports, etc.?  I seriously thought maybe some created another account because of the numbers of Hubs they have published, and the difficulty of just scrolling down the list to check on them (broken links, etc.).

Everything brand new on new account - new email address, new low score to start off with, new Hubpads account that starts at zero and you have to wait until it reaches $50 to reach payout.

What about when it comes to voting up their hubs? Isn't it possible a hubber having multiple accounts can go and vote up the hubs which fall under the different  accounts they've opened? Wouldn't  this also result in them having a high hubber score?

Actually, I don't believe the vote up or down button has a great deal of effect on the hub score.  Some wish it removed entirely for this reason.  But who knows for sure how it works?

In addition to what Randy Says, I barely look at hubscore.

It is NO BEARING whatsoever on search engine results. I write primarily for the search engines.

While there may well be a few thousand hubbers, there are BILLIONS of potential readers to be found using search engines.

It is traffic that brings earnings, not other hubbers, and hubscore is an entirely internal algorithm.

Once again, a word of advice to newbies and those who are not yet gaining widespread traffic, TITLE your hubs using words a searcher might type into a search engine.

Use those exact words at least twice throughout the body of the hub, and use synonyms to let Google understand what your hub is about.

Do this, and there is every chance you will attract Google traffic almost from day 1, if your hub is not on an over-saturated topic.

Thank you IzzyM. This is very good information. I will take your advise and try out the suggestions you have listed to increase traffic to my hubs. Thank you again.

Congrats, Izzy!!! I have not experienced that kind of action very often.

I have often toyed with the idea of having another account for things I write in the medical field, and also for my poetry. I figure, if I have more pages with HP ads on them, I'll make more. If this is true, let me know, someone? Oh, and I want to say that I do not spin my own (or any) articles on HP or anywhere else.

I once had multiple accounts.  My goal was to separate my hub topics into multiple authoritative authors.   What I found though was that multiple accounts were difficult to manage and I didn't have a very reliable revenue stream.  In the end I closed all of my accounts except for one and moved all of my hubs to it.  Now it is much easier to manage  and my revenue is much better than it ever was before.

Ah, so I learn, CW. I can see that happening, too, so maybe I will just stick with the one I have. Or, maybe I'll do just one other persona and see how it goes. I couldn't imagine having multiple accounts, but most ppl are more organized than I am.

Yeah things really got crazy at one point.  I remember one time I accidentally published a hub on the wrong account.  I had to delete it and then republish it on my other account.  It was flagged as duplicate content because I didn't wait long enough before republishing it.  When I finally got it published, I had missed the opportunity to gain the precious initial traffic that usually kick starts a hub.

I have two pretty much un-used other accounts. I used a different user name but don't pretend to be anything different than I really am. (I just say a lot more about who/what I am under this name.) One I started a few years ago, because I was thinking I'd write a different type of stuff than I do under this name.  I ended up using that account to write one Hub about something a family member dealt with.  Everyone in my family (and some friends) know the name I use on on here.  I didn't want that person to think I'd come on here and "tell her personal, medical, business to the world" (more accurately, to everyone who knows the name I write under on here and who is also either family or friends).  So I have that account, which has made, I think, about a nickle in the couple of years.  (I still have plans for it, though  roll).

Then I started one other one because I wanted to write about only one subject and also didn't want to write about that subject under this name.  That one has one or two Hubs in it.  (I forget.  Again:  roll

I have - like - "eighty zillion" things going online and only so much time and energy to put into any of them.  Great plans for them all, though.  roll

I'm confused. In the forum about the hubpages scam, they say you are not allowed to have more than 1 account. I was unaware of that as I knew a lot of people have more - can someone clarify this?

    1. WryLilt profile image88
WryLiltposted 12 years agoin reply to this

This is what the FAQ says:

Can I have multiple HubPages accounts?
You may have more than one account, as long as they are used in the spirit of contribution to the community. Creating large numbers of accounts for solely promotional purposes may result in all of them being banned. Creating Hubs about the same or very similar subjects in different accounts is also prohibited. Please stick to a persona in the Forums; using more the one account to post in the same Forum thread is not allowed.

      ----------------------
As I pointed out in the other thread, the majority of information I received in the email was incorrect - the person who wrote it obviously had little knowledge of how the site works.
