In your estimation, has American civilization, culture, and society as it is currently is a result of evolution or devolution?  Explain your reasons for your assessment.

In terms of our individual rights (to a certain extent), it has evolved, particularly since the late 40s. Voting Rights Act, school desegregation, women's rights, etc.  And we have certainly evolved technologically.  But in a cultural sense, I'm not so sure.  Listen to the lyrics of song from any genre 30 years ago, and compare them to today.  We have become a sound byte driven, Instagram driven society with very short attention spans.  Not sure how that will play out a generation from now.

Are are re-experiencing the Days of Atlantis where a technologically advanced society blew themselves up?
Is this our second chance to do it right?
What would "doing it right" be?
Maybe keeping in touch with our common sense, our humanity, our roots of … ?
