What gives the U.S. the decisive edge on entreprenurial progress?
That's a really big question with an answer that must encompass many factors, most of which I haven't made a study of.
So, my short, responsible answer would have to be, "I dunno."
If I were to guess, though, I would say that the US seems to have more people who are willing to ask for forgiveness after trying something new that went wrong rather than ask for permission to try something new. This is, of course, just an unfounded opinion.
HI. I saw your bio. I used to be a tech writer as well.
There is a big time lawyer in Canada with your name too.
Ok, back to your question;
Having lived abroad and many nations try to study this question, so here is my opinion.
We are willing to make mistakes and learn from them and we are also taught to make choices from the time we are little. Many nations are raised to not have a choice from childhood but they are dicated instead. Even some EU nations. We are aso encouraged to be curious and be explorers. Some nations are rote oriented. We aso have this team attitude.
We had relative freedom for about 120 years. But don't worry, we are sinking back to the level of the rest of the world.
I think there are two things that play heavily into it. First, the environment is good. The USA is a capitalist society with a focus on personal gain. If one can create it one can reap from it. Secondly, I think the drive of the individual. This is somewhat nurtured by the environment but not totally. The USA does not necessarily have the smartest people but it is still a place where an individual can have a good idea and make it a reality and reap the majority of the benefits from it. Other countries may not provide the environment for these people to see their ideas come to fruition without great penalty. Thanks. WB

It gives you more free time and more choice, but is free time and choice really freedom?
