    Nothing. In my experience, people snap at others (are rude to them) because they cannot get their frustration out towards the person who caused it.

    So in a way, I believe people feel better once they snap at somebody who was just there to add a drop to their bucket, making it overflow. That does not make it right. And I always appreciate when somebody comes back to apologize. Has not happened often and even as far as I go, I try my best to apologize when I do it...

    For me, people who are rude are angry and anger is something that is very hard to forget, especially if it is caused by something constant.

    there is no point...and being rude is rude anyways! You get more out of everything when you're nice to people. If someone is rude, I find it better to just turn away from them. The energy I'd waste by returning the rudeness just isn't worth it to me.
