The Shotgun seems very popular in Movies and Video Games, I think the weapon you use will have to be suited to your surroundings. If you are elevated and safe, maybe a Sniper Rifle. If you need to mow down wave after wave of the un-dead you can't beat a Mini-Gun.
I thought this too, and it makes a lot of sense. I do have one question though...What happens when you run out of bullets?
This is why people who fear battling zombies need to be doomesday preppers. Stockpile components to make ammo and have someone making it while you are mowing them down with a sniper rifle or something bigger and faster.
Do grenades work with zombies? Those would be cool as well. Although I don't want to get close enough to throw one at them. Maybe something that lobs them like a grenade launcher.

If a zombie apocalypse happened, where would you want to set up your defense?I would chose either Cabelas or another large sporting goods store. Due to their weapon stocks as well as food rations and water.
