Who is the 5th most terrible villain of the past 100 years behind Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot?
I'm doing a series of hubs per the most terrible villains of the past 100 years. The first four were easy for me (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot) but I'm having problems with the fifth. Please help and briefly tell why you chose the person you did for 5th place. Please no jokes.
How about Idi Amin, the Ugandan dictator that slaughtered thousands, perhaps millions of his countrymen. Have you ever seen 'The Last King of Scotland' Forrest Whittaker portrays the dictator really well. Like the others you've already mentioned he was totally mad and also very paranoid. Another one worth mentioning is Robert Mugabe, the man who has led Zimbabwe for over 30 years, and in that time has committed atrocities against his own people. There's also Saddam Hussein and Colonel Gaddaffi.
Excellent information--I will study and compare your villainous nominees! Thanks much! Voted up
Even if too late to be #5, Idi Amin should definitely be somewhere near the top of the list. I agree: The Last King of Scotland was a brilliant cinematic portrayal of him & Forrest Whitaker inhabited the title role with incredible and eerie insig
Aficionada, Idi Amin was definitely considered. Thanks much!
Hi Missing Link,
for me that would be Saddam Hussein. For someone to live in such wealth and luxury while so many didn't even have the basics of what we accept as life and living is morally and criminally wrong.
I feel he got his just rewards,
MJ.
Thanks mckearn, Yep he was pretty bad. Thanks much. Voted up
I think we are spoilt for choice, when it comes to choosing villains of the last hundred years. There are just so many of them. Here are a few of mine.
Nicolae Ceausescu of Romania. He almost totally ruined this country and oppressed his people grieviously while living the high life himself.
Lenin. Without him there could be no Stalin.
Some of the deputies of the dictators were pretty evil themselves. Hans Franck,(nazi governor of occupied Poland), oversaw the concentration/extermination camps.
There are no end of candidates for the prize of greatest villain. It should keep you writing for years.
Good luck.
Thanks christopheranton, I will surely consider your suggestions. Voted up.
Tie between Henry Kissinger and Donald Rumsfeld. Former drew out Vietnam peace talks so that corporate interests could make megabucks as our troops died, and sold out South Vietnam at the end. Latter pushed us into unnecessary war in Iraq; knew about 9/11 in advance and pushed aspartame (artificial sweetner) through FDA as CEO of GD Searle. It had been denied approval for 15 years due to safety concerns. Linked to numerous health problems. He was buddies with new FDA chief. Both influential today in several NWO groups.
Thanks for your help Eric, I will consider your suggestions. Voted up.
Jeez, any one of a lot of people might qualify here; on this dubious list of distinction?
If one was too examine their actions closely? It would seem that the financiers of these despots, would fit the required bill?
Within the last ten years? Oh, the Bush family would be right up there. Along with the Saudi, Bin Laden family? How about the Cheneys of this world? Or Rumsfeld, with his weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? All front men, for the Rothschild, Meyers, etc. and their private banks ...... Peace, does not sell much soda pop!
Thanks, Missing Link! My reply to your hub question was gained from interent sources. However it stands to reason that all of the people already on your list required financial backing. Even despots need investors.
hirundine, you have just about taken the words right out of my mouth.
Missing Link: Look within at our own country's leaders. We are not immune to having villians in office.
Hi everyone! mjkearn got best answer cause he suggested Saddam who I would have picked # 6. For number 5 I picked Heinrich Himmler. He was the main Nazi who oversaw the concentration camps per WWII Germany. Thanks so much everybody!
I think Kim Jong Il would make my list. Keeping his entire nation in a state of perpetual misery and starvation for decades so that he could suck down Cognac and collect luxury items all while making them worship him as a God is pretty grotesque.
Omar al-Bashir is a good nominee. President of Sudan during the Second Sudanese Civil War (2 million deaths) and the Conflict in Darfur.
It's a little outside your age range but Leopold II is a worthy addition. He enslaved the Congolese people in order to extract rubber and ivory. Estimates of deaths during his reign are put at between 5-15 million.
I really think Hirohito is worth looking into. The Japanese army was particularly brutal to occupied civilian populations. I've seen death toll estimates that rival Stalin and Hitler, plus there was widespread looting, forced prostitution, use of biological/chemical weapons, forced labor, torture, etc. Not that many countries are very nice during war but he was exceptional.
Thanks junkseller, Very good suggestions! Perhaps I will have co-villains per my last hub. Voted up!
I just published my # 4 villain hub a la Pol Pot. Within the next few weeks I will choose my # 5 villain which you all have helped me with. Thanks again and further comments are welcome!
My two finalists are Saddam Hussein and Heinrich Himmler. Himmler, aside from Hitler, was the main guy who oversaw the concentration camps per Nazi Germany. I will do further study to decide who I think is the worse villain.

Who do you think is the worst out of the three? Stalin, Hitler, or Hirohito?Stalin killed about 20 million of his own people, Hitler with his concentraiton camps, and Hirohito with his torture techniques horrible treatment of enemies
