Is it okay if you swallow a stitch after getting your wisdom tooth pulled?
I had a wisdom tooth pulled (lower left) four days ago and I was told that today I can begin eating more hard food, slowly though. I had a light lunch and afterwards I felt that one of the stitches (they're NOT dissolvable) was loose. Now it seems that it came completely undone and I swallowed it and I can feel it in my throat! Should I be concerned?
Dissolvable stitches break apart, they don't disappear. It would not be unusual to swallow a piece and not know it. Drink some water to wash it down. All things will come to pass.
There is great wisdom in not answering this (that is like this); however, since I am in stitches thinking abou this, I must "speak," you have no worries. All (of these) things will indeed pass...
I did, and suffered no adverse consequences. At the Mutter Museum in Philly there is a huge display of "Random Things People Swallowed" and wow, yeah, a piece of medical stitching is going to go down just fine.
