Referring to the European conflict, due to the state in which Germany was left after World War I, they were looking for ways to regain their former geopolitical relevance and throw away the Treaty of Versailles. Plus, to put it simply, Hitler truly believed in the supremacy of Germany as a nation and of the Aryan race to dominate the region.
But remember that WWII was a conflict between several nations, not only Germany. Japan also had similar beliefs of world dominance, which is why they invaded Manchuria, launching the Pacific conflict.
