What makes parents believe that their children ought to FOLLOW the parents' cultural,
familial, political, & religious viewpoints to the point of disowning their children if the latter choose to have different cultural, political, & religious beliefs? What makes such parents so selfish? This is a good subject to write a hub on.
If you believe it, there is a good reason you believe it, and believing it is good to hold those beliefs means you will think it is right to teach it to your children. Regardless of your values.
After the election, I've witnessed fights over "How could you vote conservative? I thought you were good!" Well, liberalism defines itself as good, smart, rational, love tolerant, moral ... which lets them ignore the other side's views as the rants of stupid, crazy people or the unacceptable words of evil haters. See a family member or friend share those views ... OMG, they just revealed they are possessed by the evil one! Instead of debating why they hold those views, easier and emotionally safer to disassociate.
I don't have this with most of my relatives, but there are few that don't come to gatherings because they cannot be civil. And in my house with my children, you aren't going to bash my faith or scream at me because you disagree with my politics. If we can rationally disagree, as my brother and I do, you can come over. Lazy moralizing that results in slandering everyone else as evil haters (also means hate speech laws silences conservatives by design).
Some people say you shouldn't share religious or political values with a child until grown. That is willfully blind or intentionally deceitful, because they aren't growing up in a vacuum, since liberals deliberately teach their values in public schools K-12 and beyond.
Those social justice warriors rioting on college campuses didn't pick that up at home, but learned it from their professors who intended to send them out to tear down society. The liberal horror is only because the weapons they created turned on them, whether Middlebury or Evergreen State. And many ended up that way because their parents were told give us your children, give us your money and shut up while we "educate" everyone per our values. Those liberal bullies were taught to think and act that way by people who thought what they were doing was right, and why their teachers keep saying don't listen to your parents, they are wrong.

I'm in the position of choosing not to follow a religion. Why do you follow your choice of religion? Do you consider you have a choice in your religion? Ans would you ever consider or have you considered switching faith?
