There are people who HATE to see others succeed & improve their lives. These people have a crab in the barrel mentality. They feel that if they made bad choices & didn't succeed, others SHOULDN'T either. They seem to rationalize their poor lifestyle choices. Negaters, haters, & other negative people have MISERABLE lives. If their lives were miserable, why would they ATTACK people who do & live better than they do?
Great analysis indeed. But that does not assure us any protection from such people.
IGNORE the negaters, haters & other negative folk, they WISH they were you which explains their ENVY. They are incapable of using that energy to IMPROVE themselves. They would rather be MIRED in negativity & a lower state of being.
You do realize that your OP could easily be categorized as negating and hating?
Can we infer that you hate yourself for not having children, choosing money over the love and happiness of a house full of family and the laughter of children?
NOT AT ALL, LOVE MY LIFESTYLE. WISH THAT I COULD HAVE DONE EVEN BETTER SOCIOECONOMICALLY! NEVER wanted kids. Always wanted a CAREER which I had. THANK YOU. NOT EVERYONE WANTS KIDS & IMPOVERISHMENT! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO BE LIKE YOU?!
I will turn YOUR question on YOU: Do you INFER that you are UNHAPPY because you never used all of your human potential to attain the most socioeconomic success, preferring struggle? Did you have children because of outside familial & societal pressure? Most people have children because of OUTSIDE pressure, not because they wanted them. If you are HAPPY w/your choice, why are you BELITTLING my choice! I chose socioeconomic success & a childfree lifestyle. I am middle class but if I had to do it over, I would be UPPER class. That is the ONLY regret I have that I didn't attain UPPER class status. Well, I STILL have time...……...to do that!
?? But I didn't belittle you for your choice not to have a family - not at all! It is your choice, not mine, and it is your goal to be a social climber, not mine.
How about you? You're on record as plainly stating that the ONLY goal should be accumulation of wealth. Are people that set different goals for themselves thus to be belittled and scorned because they value something you don't?
Let me explain something to you. I am on the downswing of my life, retired and living a middle class life. I have exactly zero interest in impressing people with my sartorial elegance, with name brand clothes or a closet full of jewelry. I have no use for a Mercedes, a mansion or a butler and housekeeper. I do my own repairs and enjoy not only the work but the feeling of accomplishment.
But I have 2 children and 6 grandchildren; every time I hear the word "Grandpa" I melt just a little. My favorite shirt is a T shirt that says "The best Dads get promoted to Grandpa". I would not exchange even one of them to be a billionaire, for the shallow goals of money or indulgence mean nothing to me. Those things never did matter; far more important to me to give of myself to my children, my 4 siblings, my remaining parent and my friends. It absolutely makes my day when my grand daughter climbs into my lap for a snuggle, a hug and an "I love you, Grandpa!".
That does not mean you have to agree and set your goals as I did and do. They are your goals, not mine, and whether I find them shallow and inconsequential is irrelevant because of that. My only wish is that you could see it within yourself to recognize that others are different, but that difference does not translate into being "worse" somehow because they don't match your own desires in life. Your goals, your desires, your pleasures and enjoyment are not common to every person on the planet, and they should not be. It takes all types, including the social climbers that value money more than love and family.
If she was really so happy with her life she wouldn't be ranting in such a fashion that she has been doing for years. She is definitely doing the most 'hating' here, it almost looks like a parody.
It does make one wonder, doesn't it? I can't recall a single person every saying that everyone should be poor and with large families, but I sure recall Grace stating that the only real goal is to become wealthy - that everyone not subscribing to that goal is substandard and stupid.
So who is really unhappy and "hating"?
ENVY is such a TERRIBLE thing. WELL, to each his/her own. You all have to live off what you make, NOT I!
What, then, if not living off what you make yourself? Entitlements such as section 8 and food stamps?
Next weekend I go camping with my son, his wife and 5 of my grandchildren where I will help a 10 year old assemble a wood project I helped him purchase at a flea market near where we camped last weekend. Wealth beyond your most voracious dreams of avarice...to me. Worth all the money in the world...to me, for I do not measure wealth by the number of pennies I have accumulated but by the love I share with others.
Pure gooblygook, pure gooblygook! Love doesn't pay the bills nor keep a roof over one's head. MONEY does, man. When will you realize THAT! HOPELESS talking to YOU. I am now going to IGNORE you.
I believe the terminology being used is "envious", not jealous. But yes, there has to be something there - years of degrading and denigrating poorer people and those with children; now this rant against people classified as "haters".

We all make choices in life according to our own inner motivations. I think what you bring to the table, gmwilliams, is the option of remaining single, childless and free to make money and live comfortably or even extravagantly.
WHY THE HECK NOT?
I mean its a perfectly fine option,
if you ask me ...
I was always DRIVEN by education, money, & career from a very young age. I was never interested in marriage nor children. My Caribbean father always stressed that women should be educated & successful. He taught me that there was FAR more in life than marriage & children. He felt that women should have high powered careers. He admired highly successful people. He looked down on people who believed in struggle/poverty & not succeeding at a high level.
Your father was a good influence for you. (You chose him for a reason.)
You two have to live off the little you make, NOT I. I don't have to live off a pittance....…….If you two struggle, FINE w/me! Not MY problem whatsoever. If you two see struggle as normative which YOU TWO do, FINE. It's YOUR "life", not MINE. If you want to be MIRED in poverty/subsistence, that's YOUR business...……..You two are the ones who have to live meagerly, not ME!
You brought up Section 8 and food stamps. I don't know anyone who lives on Section 8 & have food stamps. Are you on Section 8 & have food stamps, I am just asking? Do you know people on Section 8 & on food stamps?
Wilderness, get yourself together- leave the STRUGGLE behind, my man. Poverty is a DISEASE. That is why SMART people who are poor fight to get out of poverty & being poor. There is no glorification in being poor, my man. Poverty is a...……….DISEASE...…………….which people can get out of...…………. My God, it is MUCH WORSE than I thought!
Somehow, you aren't painting a picture of a life one would envy.
I am comfortably middle class, not a worry in the world. Never had to struggle. Never was poor. Always helped poor to impoverished people through donating food & clothing. What about you? You stated that you are upper class. Upper class people don't think the way that you do. Not the ones I know. They feel as I feel that poverty & being poor is a disease, a pathology, an abject condition which is to be avoided & if one is born poor, GET OUT OF IT! One doesn't have to be MIRED in the quagmire of poverty. Get real. There is TOO MUCH poverty consciousness in this forum. Wilderness & you have that poverty disease. There is a ……...CURE..... There is a CURE...….

That is sad. Why didn't you want to be wealthy? Wealth is a good thing to have. Having a poverty mentality is a disservice. Why is poverty glorified, even deified by you & wilderness. I see nothing about poverty & being poor to be deified. There is nothing wrong in accumulating wealth. More people SHOULD DO IT! If more people were ambitious to be socioeconomically wealthy or least upper middle class, America would be a MUCH BETTER society.
BTW, those who are in lower level jobs will be phased out by automation. Automation & computerization will take over the lower level jobs, including lower level white collar jobs. I read a book 2 decades ago regarding the new poor. The book stated that with the increase of automation & computerization of jobs, there will be a new poor. Those w/o the relevant education or computer/technical skills will become the new poor. Even some of the middle class will become the new poor.
In the future, there will be a widening of socioeconomic classes in America. The rich, of course, will become richer because they have the ultimate access, that goes without saying. The middle class- the lower middle class will become part of the poor. The solidly middle class will go either way-all depending upon education & skill level. Those of the solidly middle class who update their educational & skill level will be the upper middle class while those who don't will devolve into the new poor(it is happening now). The upper middle class with their specialization & those who consistently update their education & skills will be either remain in the upper middle class or even become the lower upper class.
The future will be more tenuous in terms of education & skill level than ever before. Those who are prepared will thrive & be part of the affluent classes while those who don't will become part of the new poor.
As a child, I was solidly middle class & didn't want for anything. I know that if I was to retain my middle class status as an adult, I would have to obtain an education & a career which I did. In my career, I was near upper middle class. I am now comfortably middle class. If I want something, I would work for it. It is good to have money. Money is good to guard the future & to live a comfortable life. Money isn't a bad thing, you know livetolearn. Love & Peace.
The good ... great, wonderful thing about money is the USE of Money!
Keep on trucking, gm!
THANK YOU. This is analogous to a Roman teaching the virtues of culture & civilization to the Goths & Huns. Lord knows I am...….TRYING. LORD KNOWS!
The only real (legal) ways I know of to live without working for it are the entitlement programs and theft. A very few can sponge off parents, at least for a while. You deny entitlements and I assume you have more honor than to sponge off your parents for your wants and needs. That doesn't leave a whole lot...
Entitlement programs keep people from advancing through their own abilities.
Entitlement programs prevent people from advancing through their own abilities.
There is the real theft/greed: Taking from those who have $$$ to give to those who don't.
Section 8 & food stamps are for lower income people. My tax dollars goes for such programs!
In New York as in California, one is taxed for social/welfare programs. It is time to cut these programs by 90%-95%. I have better things to do w/my tax dollars than to support able-bodied people who can work. Welfare has become a GENERATIONAL thing. Time to cut the welfare cord!
Yes, how is this welfare thing working out for us?
Welfare is making the poor lazier & more entitled. Welfare & other useless social programs must be reduced significantly. Reinstitute workfare programs. We middle class are taxed to support the poor- that ISN'T fair in the least. The poor made THEIR choice to be poor. They made their bed, let them lie in it without these social programs!
Let school districts be run locally. Every child is being left behind and common core IS rotten to the core, and in a common way: to every single school it is being taught in.
America is being dumbed down in more ways than one.
You have to WORK to earn money unless your parents are multimillionaires & you get your wealth by inheritance. I was born into a solidly middle class household & have been solidly to somewhat upper middle class all my life. I worked since graduating from college(did have a summer job), mostly for New York State in professional job capacities. I am retired on a pension. When people get jobs, they $ave so they won't suffer when they retire. If you don't $ave, you have to live on crumbs & struggle.
Many rich people are thus because of HONEST, SMART work! They EARNED their wealth, it wasn't handed to them! So-called entitlements such as Section 8 & food stamps are for poor to impoverished people. Newsflash, the rich people I know made their children earn their way. They aren't about to give inheritances to their children early- that inheritance is after the parents have died.
The rich people I know WORK for their wealth. Wilderness, you don't get around much, do you?! They earned their wealth by extensive, even specialized education, & smart, honest work. I know one who came from an extremely impoverished background who became wealthy- this person worked & organized to get wealthy.
Also, when people work, they save for retirement. That way when they retire, they can live COMFORTABLY. SAVE FOR RETIREMENT. Weren't you taught this?! Totally UNBELIEVABLE that you DON'T know this. I am retired on a pension, living well. If people save while working, they can live a comfortable middle class life when they retire. Having a good job helps in that instance! You are beyond unbelievable.
Where did you get entitlement programs from? Entitlement programs are for the poor to impoverished. Really now! Solidly middle, upper middle, & upper class people $ave for themselves & for their children. These classes instill the value of education, strategy, & smart work to their children. They leave inheritances for their children-which is received after the parents' death. Even the rich don't leave their children inheritances when young- the children are taught the value of work & a dollar! You really haven't been around much, have you?!
For the last TWO posters:
Remember ENVY is TOXIC. Live YOUR OWN lives, don't criticize nor worry about OTHER'S lives as long as they don't bother YOU! ENVY is t-o-x-I-c...……………..Must be UNHAPPY to criticize ANOTHER'S LIFESTYLE CHOICE, hmmmmmmm…………
This DEMONSTRATES that the less successful are threatened by the highly successful. The former are struggling & hate the highly successful because they don't have to struggle & have more myriad lifestyle choices. Don't hate less successful ones, CREATE more prosperity!
Gotcha THAT koolaid, you must be so thirsty. Have a...…….DRINK. HAVE A...……...DRINK, my dear...…..
This is where you and I are different. I see displays such as this thread as insecurity. Blatant attempts for validation. I've never felt much need to impress. You do your thing. Be happy. Give others the same leeway. As wilderness pointed out, people are different. It should be celebrated, not denigrated because of some personal issues.
Some of the happiest and most contented people I've known in life were poor, by my standards. Some were rich, by my standards. Conversely, most of the most miserable souls I've met were money grubbers and constantly looking around for people to scoff at. I always assumed it had more to do with personal insecurity than anything else. They needed validation and were happy to dig their heels into anyone else if it made them perceive themselves as better. It's quite sad. And sometimes laughable.
People who are envious of others tend to criticize those who are more successful than they are. There are people who are mired in negativity & want others to have the same lifestyle as theirs. Yes, misery loves company. It is the less successful & less educated who have THE MOST ENVY. They HATE to see others DO better than they do.
Why do people ENVY, even HATE those who accomplish their goals? People are threatened by others' success. Why? If people tend to THEIR OWN affairs & IMPROVE themselves, they wouldn't have time to criticize others who are MORE SUCCESSFUL than they are.
To those who criticize educated, wealthy, & successful people as so-called greedy. To those who criticize people who have more myriad socioeconomic choices: REMEMBER THIS:
ENVY is toxic, it is even DEADLY. So instead of criticizing the former, GET YOUR OWN LIFE in order. If YOUR life was so great, you wouldn't be criticizing others who have more myriad socioeconomic choices you have & are more successful than you. Highly educated, wealthy, & successful people ADD to society. They make society...……..BETTER for themselves, their children, & for OTHERS! They are to be...…...ADMIRED.
My advice is to just ignore the Negaters and Haters. Don't even pinpoint them. Let them hate and negate until they get weary of it. They will.
+100000000000000000000000000000000! YES, they HATE. HATRED denotes INSECURITY. Just like the Nazis who hated Jews. The Jews were educated & FAR MORE successful than the Nazis, many of whom were uneducated, poor, & unsuccessful if they weren't Nazis. Hitler LED the PACK! Hitler was a TOTAL FAILURE before he became a Nazi & took power in Germany. Remember, HATERS are FAILURES. If they weren't FAILURES, they wouldn't be...……...HATERS. RIGHT AGAIN, KATHRYN.
Apparently, the government is greedy.
For instance: Consider the death tax.

Why do some people begrudge others even when they are doing their best?Sometimes I notice that there is a tendency to criticize people who are good at what they are doing. It seems to me that one has to be doing nothing to criticize and doing something to be criticized. Is this true?
