Despite enormous accolades 'The Hurt Locker' is considered a financial failure - like all films about Iraq /or other/ wars. Director Bigelow is not surprised, ' she stuck her finger in the tragic heart of a national wound - our inability to face ourselves.

Although I've not seen that particular movie, the war movies made within the last 10-20 years are far superior to those made in the 70s and 80s. They are more realistic and graphic, generally more moving and, for that reason, have more impact. There is definitely more of a human reflection in these flicks whereas the older movies tend to focus more on the manly heroic sides of war.
