The name for the Nigerian Movie Industry. Silly? I know. But a lot of people dont know about it yet. Its supposed to be the second largest in the world, in terms of movies made. And the third in the world in terms of worth. It really is something. Just made a hub on it. The industry's only competition is really just Hollywood and Bollywood. And people still dont know it exists!
I have since I read your hub! See! I read your hubs!!!
Sure you do, Davi. And I plan on reading every one of yours. Okay, except the Mommy ones - i'll soften the hell out of my heart. Take a guy like me, who thinks he's as as tough as nails, and you'll find that half the time Mommy stuff kills me. No kidding.
Nollywood? Next thing ya know, there'll be "Pollywood" (Pakistan), Follywood (France) and "Gollywood" (Germany). Can't you guys come up with something fairly original???
ha ha ha. I made that joke at the beginning of my hub. Its a FIASCO, really! But the industry isn't a thing to write off though - money-making wise.
no disrespect CJ but Irohner made me laugh.
I havent heard of it though?
Do they have anything on DVD in the states?
While I don't discuss it much on here, filmmaking is something that I'm very interested in. I was reading up about Nollywood late last year so I'll definitely check out your hub on it.
fierycj, have you read Robert Rodriguez's book Rebel Without A Crew?
R2 has a book! Geez, and I call myself his fan! Must have been busy following Guy Ritchie up and down the place. Geez, Rodriguez is my man for life. Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Sin City, Dusk Till Dawn...
Okay, okay... It's very clear now that I did NOT read your hub on the subject. (abject dispair)
But I do have a life. Really. And I was REALLY, really busy. but heading there now. Will read. And if I know you at all, it will be worth it..
Dont despair, Irohner. You're a busy Mom. A hot Mom, too.
You are SO misinformed, my dear. But I still luv ya!
Beauty is in the eye of the blah blah...love ya back.
I don't have a life. I live to read fierycj's hubs... Keep 'em coming... Tomorrow's free!
i think you are pretending about nollywood.....
do you mean hollywood
Alas! You guys dont know anything: Bollywood (Bombay film industry) is now established in international parlance. then there is:
Kollywood (Kannada film industry, also known as Sandalwood)
Mollywood (Malayalam film industry)
Tollywood (Tamil film industry)
Incidentally Bollywood makes far more films than Hollywood every year. Fact.
I knew this, which is why a few months ago I invested a decent amount of money into an Indian film company! India is a decent place to invest at the moment, a fast developing country.
And Nigeria DOES!!!! Make more films than either India or the USA! However, they have absolutely no copyight laws whatsoever, so they are very low budget.
The reason that they make the most probably has something to do with the fact that foreign film producers dont want to market dvd's there. They only have to sell one copy, and somebody could legally set up a factory making 10,000 a day!
to be honest i would not believe anything he says, he is a bit mad so my friend told me.....
I guess that us British had the 'B' taken by the Indian's.... who probably didn't like the sound of 'Iollywood'..... we call British made films 'Britflicks'... maybe 'Brollywood' would be more apt ;-)
The sequal to any 'Britflick' that actually makes any money normally gets funding from Hollywood, and gets Americanised... Guy Ritchie made 'Lock Stock' and 'Snatch' as an example.... before Hollywood came in and we got 'Revolver' (which didn't go down very well here).

Have you ever heard of the term grauntie or gruncle?I recently heard these terms in place of "great aunt" and "great uncle." Are you familiar with the terms? Do you think the words have staying power?

What are the funniest actual names you have ever heard? What are some truly awfully funny names you have ever heard. One of my favorites is Young Boozer. The only rule for answering this question is the name has to belong to a real person, no made up names please!
