    are epic~

Yea, my guy friend had an obsession with the show and introduced me to is last year. At first I was: "It's an old show, and I hate 80's sitcoms. And, it's about old ladies...what's great..."

    I was wrong. neutral

I watch three episodes in a row today because it is...that great.

Yea, I'm 22, but I am already planning to be just like 'em when I am 55. I figure I'll be a mix of Dorothy since my voice is on the way to be liking hers, and than Blanch. Ya know, after menopause hits me and being my sexless self, I'll just slut out. Perfecttt.

But, regardless, Sophia and Rose are my favorites.

So, who loves this show (still) and who is your favorite character?
    And, why? big_smile

I loved her witty, monotone humor...a favorite really is a tough decision here, I must say.

    I love the Golden Girls!!!

I think the casting on the show was brilliant. I love the super clever one liners and GG is one of the only sitcoms that makes me laugh. I've heard people say Sex and the City is a modern version of GG but I don't see that at all. I'd watch GG anytime but I rarely, if ever, watch Sex and the City. Just FYI - I think all the actresses were well over 55 when the show was filmed. smile

Yea, I got bored one day and went on imdb to check. All of them were over 55 except Blanch who was like...12 years younger than all of them.

Yes, and the actress who played Sophia was actually *much* younger in real life, by decades if I remember correctly. She did such a great job on that show - my favorite character of all, although I really like Dorothy's sarcasm as well.

I saw a few episodes of that show, its funny indeed. I like it, it also has some really well planned out themes within the episodes.

Love the Golden Girls, can't pick a favorite they all were. I have always been more like Rose but here recently Dorthy has taken over.

My son and my sister's son (both in their 20's now) liked the Golden Girls even when they were kids.  There's something about that show that apparently strikes a lot of young guys as funny.  I thought it was a good show too.  I have to say, though, that I always assumed they were way older than 55.  Just to point out what 50 really looks like (to those of you who are 22 and think 50 means looking like Bea Arthur in Golden Girls  lol)...

Caroline Kennedy is over 50.  Condoleeza Rice is too.  So are Katie Couric and Anne Curry.  Christie Brinkley is past 50.  Sharon Stone's another over-50.  Sally Field is in her early 60's.  Valerie Bertinelli is very close to 50.  Sarah Palin's a mere 5 years away from being 50.   (I just had to "defend" "over-50" to "a certain person" who used the terms, "55" and "old ladies" in the same post.  mad   lol  It's ok, torimari.  Those of us on here who have seen our 50th birthday remember being 22 and thinking how old 50 was.   lol  Then you get here and discover you can still have your own light brown hair, the very same voice you've always had, the same energy level, and pretty much the same face you've always had (with, admittedly, a few relatively minor signs of aging on it).  (I don't know about other over-50 people, but I have not yet resorted to slutting it up or otherwise acting like a tough old bird.  lol  lol  lol  )

Yea, I was rather inconsiderate there. More like middle-aged ladies for the show at least.  xD

It's good to see other's love for the show and charaters ya'll.

You weren't inconsiderate.   You were being 22.   smile  (a little misguided about how old 50 really looks, maybe, but not inconsiderate  smile  )  I do kind of find your idea about slutting up once there's little left to lose kind of interesting, though.  Maybe I'll think about that in about 20 years.  lol

It seems to me that young guys seem to get the biggest kick of Sophia, but I think Dorothy made the show.  Bea Arthur had that way of making that dead-pan face while being sarcastic.

Hey, I just created this account to add to this!  I'm watching the Golden Girls now and googled Rue McClahan's (Blanche, the young one) age, and she was born in 1934.  The show started in 1985.  So she was 51 when the show came out.  50-something has gotten a lot sexier in the last 20 years (just think... Kim Cattrall of SATC is 53!).  Just love this show, and so does my mid-20's husband!

Just googled the other actors... Bea Arthur (Dorothy) and Betty White (Rose) were both born in 1922 and the "old lady" Sophia (Estelle Getty) was born in 1923!

Wish there was a show like this on again, but at least we have a ton of reruns!

Hi Nicole! Welcome to HubPages ~

So, Rue McClanahan was in her early 50's when the show was filmed. Interesting info about all their ages. I think only Rue and Betty White are still alive.

Well now that you have joined, you should try your hand at writing a hub!

It is a sad world to live in with only two Golden Girls still living!  I loved that show as a kid, and I still love it today.  It's impossible for me to pick a favorite!

    What's your favorite episode?
